My twins will be.......

one of each!! (as I predicted;)) Team Pink and Team Blue!!

Sorry I haven't been posting much...I seem to have a problem with this site not notifying me of new posts. I am not sure what I am doing wrong, but I "subscribe" to the ones I post in, but never get notification. It makes it hard for me to keep up. (I am open to help!!)

Anyway, quick update on me: Anatomy scan went well--both twinkies looking and measuring good....baby BOY is measuring about 6 days ahead, but baby GIRL is right exactly on target so no worries. Hematoma is still present, but I haven't had any bleeding in the past 3 weeks so I am hoping and praying that it is gone. I go to see Maternal Fetal Medicine the week after next and they will also be doing a echocardiogram of the babies' hearts. The MD said it is because they are IVF babies, but I heard that is bunk about increased heart problems with IVF. But, any extra peek at the babies is ok by me, and extra examination of their organs is fine as well. I also had 2nd trimester bw done, and it lowered our odds of Downs to 1/2600 so I am feeling fairly confident that all is well.

I have been on modified bedrest still...now almost 14 WEEKS...ugh...but my OB is letting me have some increased light activity and if all looks well on u/s next week I will get to return to work the week after.

Congratulations! Smile Glad to hear you are doing better...boy, bed rest for 14 weeks; I can't imagine. I barely managed 3 weeks of partial bed rest here! I ended up having an SCH also but I have had 2 weeks with no bleeding also so hopefully both of ours are resolved. Hope the rest of your pregnancy goes more smoothly.

That is awesome! One of each! I am so jealous. I wish I were in your shoes so I could be done after this pregnancy. Wink Congrats. Do you have names yet?

That's great news! Don't worry about the electrocardiogram. It's just an ultrasound focused on the heart. I had one with Melodie and am having another o e tomorrow. There is a tiny tiny tiny chance of a genetic heart defect so were just being careful. They are quite common, and I'll be glad to know everything is perfect!

That's so wonderful! You get the best of both worlds in one shot!! Are they identical or fraternal? Any names yet?

This is sort of a difficult question, but generally yes. The problem is there are 1/2 or 3/4? I forget the actual term used, but sometimes an egg splits before it is fertilized and 2 different sperm "eat it". So twins could have started out as one egg but have 2 different sperm. Some speculate that Mary Kate and Ashley are this type twin. But I assume 99.9% of the time with girl and boy twins, people would never even consider the egg split before conception. I hope that makes sense? I am pretty sure they don't know the incidence of the split before conception especially in g/b twins because you would normally just assume two eggs. And to compile data you would have to do a dna test on every set born.

Congratulations on one of each!! My boy had some sort of small heart problem. They said he would outgrow it. I haven't had him checked since he was a NB though (thanks for the reminder!)

I forgot to add, I am having the same problem with notifications. It is driving me crazy. I have given up on fixing it.

Thanks everyone!! We are pretty thrilled to have one of each actually!:D:D

Names we have some ideas....slight struggles with DH because he tends towards the more unusual. I think we will be compromising in that I will "let" him add a unique middle name to my fairly biblical first names. Blum 3

I never heard about that splitting egg thing, Lil, that is a pretty amazing possibility. But since we did IVF with multiple embryos I would assume we have "true" fraternals in there. Plus, since there is one egg, but 2 different sperm they wouldn't actually be "identical" since they only share the exact half of DNA, right? Is there a special term for that? I will have to google away...I never heard of it.

***And no one knows how to help with notifications?!? please?***
