Non-breastfeeding engorgement issue

I am not breastfeeding (long story -- not even going there! (but hopefully shouldn't even need to)).

My milk came in around day 4 or 5 (Ouch!). Wore a tight bra, left them the heck alone, and things subsided around day 7 or 8.

I get a couple of days where my boobs are 100% normal for my non-pregnant self.

Now, for about 2 days, I've have this terrible stinging and burning sensation in my nipples/areola and the skin around it in both boobs. It feels almost like a "contraction" coming on, and one boob starts to ache and sting, and then a few seconds later the other boob chimes in and does the same thing. It feels similiar to the engorgement pain but different. It's sort of hard to describe. It burns and stings and a minute or two later, it passes and I'm "normal" again.

I had NOTHING like this with my first. Ant non-breastfeeding or previous weaning mammas have something like this happen to them???

Does this warrant a call to the doc, or is this normal?

Lurker...
that's what let down feels like to me. I'm a bfing mama though. Smile
I have no idea how common it is for non-bfing mamas, but a totally normal thing.

Does it hurt?? Or does it feel better for you maybe because you're breastfeeding during the let-down so the milk is "going somewhere"?

It's weird because I thought I was 100% dried up.

Somethings going on, either way!

Yeah it hurts. It feels the same on both sides, though I think it may hurt slightly more and last longer on the side you aren't bfing on. I don't leak on the side I'm not bfing on either.

Interesting. Probably the same thing, then! I'll give it another week or so and see if it settles down a bit. Thanks for your input!

I second this. Sounds like exactly what I went through a few weeks ago when I was letting mine dry up. The stinging and tingling...then I would leak a bit. But it went away. I took Motrin to help with the discomfort.

PS- I'm glad I'm not the only mama formula feeding. Makes me feel better! Smile

There's NO problem with formula feeding!!! I did that with my son...he just didn't get it and I didn't know what to expect... I look at it as the baby needs to eat somehow, right?!

I don't remember what it felt like when my milk was drying up...it sounds not comfy so I hope it ends soon!!

I think it sounds a bit like let down to me too. I BF but if I went too long between feedings - like at work etc between pumping - I'd occasionally just let down and it would feel like that (and often leak too). I'd think it was leaking.

If you have any hard spots, red spots/streaks or a fever you prob want to call the doc about mastititis which I had too and was no fun at all!

I don't really know about drying up though b/c we did that slowly
