nursing to sleep.

Does anyone elses child not fall asleep after you nurse them? I think I can count the number of times she has fallen asleep after a nursing session on one hand. It can get very frustrating especially in the middle of the night.

Do you ladies have any tricks to help them fall asleep when they are nursing. When she is not sleeping on someone or being held by someone she is a very very light sleeper. It can be very hard during the day at times. Do you have any tricks to get them to sleep for naps and bedtime?

Rory doesn't really nurse to sleep either. It IS frustrating! At night it is now down to about an hour of rocking and patting him to get him asleep enough to lay down. In the middle of the night USUALLY I can get him back down at the first waking (so like 1-2am). I keep the room dark, I don't change his diaper, I just nurse, rock and back down and it only takes liek a 1/2 hour. If/when he wakes again around 4 I put him in bed with us and that usually works. During the day he either naps in my arms or the swing, nothing else works at all Sad I wish I had more advice!

That sounds exactly what I go through. The only reason I change her diaper at night is if she poops, luckily that isn't very often at night. It's just very frustrating as I can't spend 2 hours holding or rocking her with a 1 year old around. I'm lucky that she sleeps in the swing fairly well especially in the morning, that way I can get Kay ready and feed her breakfast without Keira screaming her head off.

Em doesn't nurse to sleep either. His awake time is after he eats, then I have to rock to sleep. Thankfully he is pretty good at night, and usually DOES go back to sleep after eating, but not if I disturb him too much while burping.

Maybe somebody has some good tips!

Just before our bedtime we have this problem sometimes, but thankfully not in the middle of the night. We sit in the nursing chair and I lay him on the boppy pillow, so he is not in my arms exactly. He won't generally fall asleep on us either, he flails around and keeps waking up... he also goes to sleep in his swing a LOT. There has been once or twice where I've grabbed the pillow and walked around with him still sleeping on it, like getting up to grab the phone or something. In the night he transfers fine to my arms and into the crib.

During the day, he eats and then is at his most alert for about an hour. Even if he falls asleep nursing he will wake and be active for about an hour after coming off BB. So after figuring that out it's easier for planning outings.

Occasionally I try to get him to nap in his crip, so I put him in there sleepy but he wakes up and starts happily chattering to his mobile and that can go on for an hour (he's finally fallen asleep as I type this after over an hour). If I had put him in his swing he would have been asleep 55 minutes ago, lol.

Luckily my 2 year old goes right to bed. So DH and/or I put him down at 8 and once he's down I begin the routine with Rory. 4 nights in a row I've had Rory down but just after 9 -- it was taking me until 10 or even 11pm to get him down. I think he's starting to fall in to a routine but i'm not ready to bank on it yet Smile

FWIW to make the hours of rocking more enjoyable for me I listen to books on my iPod. I put it on very low so I can hear it but it's not disruptive and the reading is actually very soothing. I have found since I started doing that that I'm a lot more relaxed and it seems to help overall. I also completely gave up the notion of laying him down awake. I realize "they" recommend you do that but it was doing nothing but making him a screaming mess and making me insane. So now I rock him until he's out COLD. It makes for a more peaceful experience for both of us.

Yeah, I watch TV shows while I'm rocking! On really low volume, and with closed captioning on! I love closed captioning. I watch everything with English subtitles, even if I'm not watching it quietly!

I would sit and rock her in the living room and watch tv but I am so exahusted that I can't keep my eyes open and the rocking would just make me more sleepy. And I really don't want to accidentally drop her Sad Ever since I almost dropped joshua when I was rocking him a long time ago in the middle of the night when I was dead tired I won't do it again.

Carter sometimes falls asleep taking his bottle but sometimes he doesn't. It all depends. If I do have to rock him I read my Kindle at the same time. It gives me something to do and I can rock him longer without getting bored Biggrin

Trystan falls asleep nursing almost every time. If he's not super tired he'll wake back up when I burp him, but typically he'll stay asleep, even if it's just for 30 minutes.

Gianni falls asleep only when he is tired. When I put him to bed for the night we nurse laying down, that's how he gets in a deep sleep then I move him to his crib. I just started having him sleep in his actual crib, so far so good!
