Pics...not PG related

I think it was Jenni who was asking about pics of my DS so thought I would share a slide show that was done for a speech I did in Feb...actually the speech was the day after I found out I was PG. The speech was for a program that DS was in to help with inclusion. So I got up in front of 500 people and shared our story from my PG and stuggles getting PG to the loss of my DD and then all the wonderful and hard things of raising a child with special needs and then finished by talking about how wonderful inclusion can be...and even though we are having some struggles right now you would be amazed and what we have experienced having my son in regular classes. Children are amazing!!! Actually so are so many teachers and parents. So take a look if you want...and then share some of your pics about whatever you want.

Thank you for sharing these beautiful family pictures! He was so tiny! Now look at him- a smiley, happy child!
It must have been hard to give that speech Melanie, in front all of these people, but by doing it I am sure you have touched many hearts and helped a lot of parents.
Thanks again for sharing the beautiful family album!

Those are beautiful pictures Melanie! Growing up a classmate, Ross, was inclusion - he had down syndrome and he was always just part of our classes. He was on prom court, in church school, in our classes. I'm sure his mom had struggles ensuring he got what he needed but for all us kids he was just a classmate, occasionally we had to help him with something but mostly he was just another kid in class we all grew up with.

I have such a huge spot in my heart for children with special needs. Growing up I was raised around adults with disabilities due to my uncle being mentally impaired and deaf. I always enjoyed being around the people that lived in the home he lived in.They were always so happy and smiling. Then when I was in high school my best friend got pregnant and her son had down syndrome. She had never been around a baby before so she treated him just like any other mother would treat a child without down syndrome. She was amazing to me.Then in 2005 my sister in law had my neice who has down syndrome as well.Let me tell you those 2 kids can bring a smile to my face no matter what.I watch them and the unconditional love they have for the world and the percerverance through all the hardships they face and I know that I could never be half the people they are. My neice Isabel has had her share of trials with illness and even in the hospital after coming off a ventilator that little girl kept a smile. Ah they make me so happy.I am so lucky to have them in my life.I think the lord for them everyday.

I often wonder about your story but felt it an intrusion to your privacy to ask. Every time you mention your son, I can see a virtual twinkle in your eye... Your words light up talking about him! Thank you for sharing the puctures. You have an amazing family.

Thanks guys!!!! I know I don't share a ton about my story and son but it is mainly that I don't want to scare people if they are nervous during PG as opposed to me wanting to keep it private. I would totally even share the speech if you guys wanted but think it is to big to post here....it is a 10 minute speech. If anyone wants to read it feel free to PM me your email address and I will send you a copy. And also if anyone has any questions about my story I don't have any problem sharing. I love sharing my story as I feel it is a great way to see how things may not work out the way you planned but how truly wonderful it can be anyway. I won't lie and say it has been easy but it is so worth it and I would not trade anything!! And if you just look at my little mans smile.....it makes everything worth while and truly makes me appreciate what we have.

Thanks so much for sharing these! I was tearing up as I looked at them! He's such a cute, happy kiddo. Are you sure you birthed him? He looks like your DH could have had him all by himself lol! Biggrin

Thanks for sharing! Your family is beautiful. And yes, your son looks JUST like your husband.

Here's an example of like father, like son. This picture is my husband at about 2, and my son on his first birthday. They look more and more alike every day.
