Pregnancy Etiquette (just for fun!)

My midwives and I had an off-topic talk at my last appointment about how pregnant women are SO easily offended. Its true - we don't want to hear from strangers that we look big, small or in between or ANYTHING else about our behavior!

I thought it would be fun to talk about some of the CRAZY things we've heard from other people and behaviors we've learned not to emulate while being pregnant.

1. "WHOA, are you sure you aren't overdue with triplets?"
"WOW, you look tiny, are you sure you are okay?

I've heard both in the same day. I've vowed to never comment on the size of a woman's belly ESPECIALLY if it seems off because she doesn't want to hear it and her Doctor is far more qualified to diagnose any growth or weight issues! I[ll be sticking to things more like "Wow, you look so cute and glowing!"

2. "Should you really be eating that? You know pregnant women aren't supposed to have salt!" (or caffeine, or sugar, or aspartame, etc).
That comment REALLY drove me up the wall because I was eating homemade lentil soup with a side of carrot sticks and the commenter was eating a freaking hot dog! Unless they are swigging a bottle of jack filled with cigarettes, I'm sure as heck not going to comment on another pregnant woman's eating habits!

i had to go in on a friday night to be induced to have DS. i decided that afternoon to treat myself to a mani/pedi as i figured i wouldn't have one for a LONG time after that. so, i'm sitting there getting my toesies done and the lady asked me (in broken english) when i was due and i told her that i was going in that night to have the baby and she got up and screamed "noooo! you too small! you too small! no baby now!"

um, thanks. weirdo.

That's REALLY funny lol At the end I got SO sick of hearing every damn day that I had "dropped" the SAME people would say it OVER AND OVER AND OVER followed by a comment about being ready to pop. I was huge (the kid was 9 pounds I'm not a huge person he took up A LOT of room) but every day? REALLY? It was very annoying.

Not pregnancy related, but something similar happened to me once while getting my manipedi. I was visiting my sister, so she introduced me to the lady as her sister visiting from Germany. Later on the lady said, "You speak very good English." I told her thanks. Lol

I have a huge uterus and I constantly get the how many are in there, are you sure about your EDD. ugghhh

I think pregnancy etiquette is for my mil to shut up, everything she says seems to offend me.

I pretty much stick with how are you doing lol.I tend to stay away from questions or comments with other pregnant women cause I know how annoyed I get with other peoples stupid comments.

I have two:

1. How are you feeling? Well, I'm perfectly fine... am I supposed to be in constant pain every day of this pregnancy? Unless you see me with tears streaming down my face, scowling, or riding myself around in a little motorized cart... I'M FINE!!!

2. Oh my God, you're still pregnant (usually get this one in the last month)? No, I gave birth, didn't tell anyone, and decided to swallow a freaking giraffe this morning. Do I look like I need you to remind me that this kid is still inside of me??? NO!!!

OK, I'm done now... lol.

This is definitely my biggest annoyance. I know people mean well when they say, "how are you feeling?" but they don't ask it like that when you are not preggo, so it bugs me.
