Sugar results are in...drum roll please!!!!

....ddddddddrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

So it looks like i have gestational diabetes!!!

My fasting blood test was lovely at 4.5...yet after an houyr and after 2 hours the level had jumped like Superman right into double figures!!

Got to go in Tuesday and be taught to use a montior on a daily basis and see a dietrician!

So my first pregnancy I get an under active thyroid and this one Diabetes...gee thanks!!
This bean best stick I swear!!!...lol

As soon as I answered the phone and the midwife introduced herself i knew..i said..so my blood results are through the roof then...she said yup!!

she seemed so nice..I really am looking forward to meeting her on tuesday!!

I asked her a few questions too about my pregnancy and she said it all sounded hopeful...but it was hard to say as so many ladies think all is well and have no negatives yet the bub heart has stopped so she said hold on to the positive and we'll see. Smile

So anyway...no more sugary treats.....that sucks as I think thats what I'm craving!!

Anyhow.....I am sooo unlucky!!

Seriously...keep away from me...I may be catching....LOL

hugs!

you know, i really think it's a GOOD thing that you found out so quickly. you can most definitely keep this at bay with following a healthy diet (don't forget my Healthy Habits Thread!) and exercise. i had GD with my first pregnancy (duh, i have insulin resistance anyway and am already on diabetes medication). following the diabetic diet will keep your blood sugar levels as even as possible.

this isn't necessarily a bad thing. really. you are early in your pregnancy and already going to start off with some healthy eating habits and it will make you and your baby that much more healthy!

oh and the finger prick thing isn't too bad. it's really painless and you barely need any to get a good reading. i've been doing it forever.

hugs!!!

I totally agree that this could be a GOOD thing. A healthy diet is a good thing to have, with or without GD.

Sorry to welcome you to such a club, Liz! But it's totally workable. Prinking fingies isn't fun but it's just not so bad. And it's temporary.

You'll do just fine!! And you can partake in a few treats here and there but keep the portion small and watch what you eat the rest of the day. Total denial isn't always a good thing either - makes you want to binge later.

This will give you a great excuse when rice cake is older for black mailing with embarrassing pics in front of the girl/boy friend!!!

I hope your craving for sugar goes away so you don't have that to fight with. You can do this!! It is great that you found out early - better for you and rice cake. Glad you have helpful people around.

*Lurker*

Sorry to hear about your GD diagnosis Liz. It's good you caught it early on though. It will be some work but through diet and exercise you should be able to control your levels. All the best at the dietician. I thnk one of the key things to do is eat small frequent meals. It helps keep your sugar levels steady. It will also help wtih cravings. *Hugs*

They don't think I'll be able to control it by diet.
My levels are still way high.
And at this early stage.
2 more high readings means I have to call and go in..and so far its only been high readings.
They have an appointment with the ob and alsorts next week.
the obs appointment on the 28th has been moved up....think it may be the one next week...but waiting on the letter.
I am more than likely going to be on insulin by next week.
They said they very much doubt I won't be medicated.
The bonus is scans every week or so!!!
Weekly appointments...not that i'm that far off all that now really.
(Scan Thursday)

My friend M has diabetes and shes been on the phone helping me....shes fab..I wish she would join thiese boards as shes ttc!
She reckons I should bite the bullet and just get on the insulin...means I get used to injecting and everything because come 17 weeks there will be no choice.

Its amazing really that all this has happened and I am very grateful for not having morning sickness....to deal with that and all this...well!!!!

Oh and BTW I love my purple blood sugar machine...sooooo funky!!!!!!

Well, while it sucks that you're past being able to fix it with diet, as least they are going to help you manage it. I'm sure you're gonna be great just as soon as you get it under control.

Yay for more scans. :goodluck:

Ah nuts Liz!! I'm sorry it's looking like insulin shots. The good news is they don't hurt. They are similar to the injects I did for IVF and they were a peice of cake! Hopefully you get the dial pen style, easy peasy! My dad is diabetic so that's how I know. The shot goes in the same places. I'm glad they are being so proactive with you and love that you will get to see your ricecake more often! Smile There just had to be a silver lining right?! Wink That's also great you have a good friend who can help you too. Keep us posted. As always you and your little ricecake are in my thoughts and prayers.

I had gestational diabetes my first pregnancy. The first thing the diet expert told me was: "The main thing is eating regularly and monitoring yourself. Nothing is absolutely forbidden. You are allowed to each chocolate. In fact, you should rather eat chocolate than nothing at all."

So maybe you will get a permission to have a small slice of that cake! Biggrin

Love ya gal!!!

Nell
Double Yay
27 hours and 40 mins to my scan!!!!!!

Burgendy. Smile
I have things that are banned....my blood sugar is so sensitive that its a risk.
I have a list of substitutes.
With insulin I would be able to have some naughties I think.

On Monday I bought so Walkers French Fries...I love those crisps and I can't eat them because the are shaped and not normal slice crisps....M took great pleasure in stuffing 2 packets in front of me and eating MY strawberry licorice laces!!!....sod!! LOL

Todqay though both blodd tests have been good.....but I know that will change at lunch when I eat something a little more substantial.

I have to say though...having the diabetes makes me feel more positive about this pregnancy...I'm not sure if you'll get that ...but....you know.... Smile
