Hey all, I know I have been totally MIA. I miss you!

A week ago I got mastitis and got the antibiotics for it. I also got a prescription for thrush, since I suspected we might have it, and figured we definitely would after doing a round of antibiotics. Anyways, I didn't start treatment for the thrush right away, I decided just to combat the mastitis first, since I wasn't too sure we had thrush yet.

Well, we definitely do now, and I want to die! We already have latch problems and now add to that extremely yeasty, painful, raw nipples! Every time I nurse I break out in a full body sweat and cry my eyes out. I can't even decide if nursing is still worth it for me. I know now that we have the yeast infection it is so hard to get rid of. BAHHHHHHH!!!!!

With all our travels over the holidays coming up, it will be so much more convenient to nurse, but I don't know if I can make it. I certainly don't want to be crying while nursing in an airport. Now I'm trying to decide if I should just stop now so I can dry my milk up before Christmas or just suck it up and deal with the pain. We only started the antifungal last night so I guess I should give it a few days to work. I just hate to think of spending Christmas with cabbage in my bra trying to dry my milk up if it doesn't work.

Ho boy you sure are going through it all at once! Sorry you're dealing with this & the timing is awful. Why is it these things happen when it is least convenient. TMI & only somewhat related... I have had 2 of the worst yeast infections of my life - while travelling overseas - I'm talking baaaad burning and scorching off my own delicate-area skin! Good thing it wasn't a foreign language or 3rd world, it was hard enough 2 get relief without seeing a doctor.

Are you allowed too take the oral pill???? What do u put on ur nips 4 relief, did they give you a topical? So does baby get treated too or does Em only get any via breastmilk? Surely that treatment started last night will help... soon. KUP and

first of all, *hugs*. You've been missed - I kept meaning to nudge you on facebook!

All I have to say is don't kill yourself. Between my ongoing supply issues and the latch issues Laszlo had initially, I didn't enjoy the first few weeks of his life. I was an emotional wreck and I cried or screamed in pain every time he fed. Breast is best, but hating the experience isn't really worth it IMHO. Good luck and KUP!

Oh man, I'm so sorry you are going through all of this! Does pumping help? Maybe you could pump until the infection is cleared up? Also, the LC told me to stay away from sugar and to eat yogurt to reduce the chances of getting a yeast infection from being on tthee antibiotics. I hope it clears up soon!

ask your DR for the oral pill!! Not just one either. It worked wonders for me when everything else didn't even make a difference.
I am so sorry you are dealing with this, first you are alone right after the birth, then mastitis and now thrush for Xmas. BIG HUGE HUGS Sandra!!!

YES YES YES to the oral pill (Diflucan). It works wonders but like Asha said you might need two doses. Bad headache is a very common side effect of that drug so beware of that. I'm so sorry you are having issues all at once. I know breast milk is best but with all the anxiety and issues I had giving it up for formula was the best thing I did. It took a lot of pressure off me, I stopped crying, my breasts healed, I was able to SLEEP, and best of all I started enjoying my baby. You are supported no matter what you decide.

We are done nursing here too.Things got better for a while and then I all of a sudden got hit hard with the PPD and decided to go on meds. The ones I chose to take are not good while nursing so we stopped 3 or 4 days ago and let me tell you even without starting the meds I feel a 100% better. I am not nearly as unhappy now.I think I beat myself up so bad over nursing being the only thing that was good for him that I litterally made myself miserable with life over it. I have never been one to have guilt when I stopped nrusing this time I just wasnt enjoying it. I felt overwhelmed and wasnt able to do anything. The fact that he wasnt content and the gassy problem and reflux added to the stress. I am finally starting to get over the soreness in my boobs thank goodness. I never had this problem with my others but man my boobs were so sore the day after I stopped nursing I cried for 2 hours. Finally pumped a touch to take the edge off and then took tylenol 3,ibuprofen and put icepacks on my boobs and it is getting better thank goodness. You have given it a good go. Sometimes it just isnt worth the mental or physical toll it takes on your body. It will mentally break you down if thing continue and then that isnt good for you or Em. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Oh Sandra I'm sorry you're going through this! I agree that breast is best, but you can't kill yourself over it. Thank God we have other options nowadays for bad situations such as yours. You have to do what's best for the both of you! Good to see you back though!!

I'm so sorry you are going through so much right now, Sandra! Do what you need to do for yourself, you are having a rough go right now. If you cannot continue nursing, then don't. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas, and that things start to get better and that the pain will go away! ((((HUGS))))
