update on my twins: 11 days old and pictures :)

My Sofia and Levi are 11 days old!

They are doing very well in the NICU. They are both taking all their feedings by bottle (no more IV or tubes--yipee). They need to get some more meat on their bones so that they can maintain their temperature so they can get out of the isolettes.

They are both gaining weight wonderfully and have both surpassed/made it to their birth weights...Levi is up to 3 lbs 11 oz (born at 3-6) and Sofia is up to 3lbs 9 oz (born at 3-9). Levi was bigger on all ultrasounds except for the last one, so I think he is "supposed" to be bigger than she is. I think his knot in his cord must have been restricting his input those last couple weeks.

Sofia has Brady episodes, but only a couple times a day, and only when she is feeding. I have been told that is "good" and easier to improve quickly.

I am so exhausted from pumping round the clock!! I pump every 2-3 hours to try to get my supply up...I think I am doing well (getting 5-6 oz a session?!?! is that "appropriate"?) Right now it is more than enough to supply them with enough for feedings, but I am not sure how quickly they will increase their need and I need to make sure to keep up.

Levi is able to latch on and breastfeed some. I try 2 times a day with him. Sofia is not so into it. Hopefully as she matures she will be able to.

Here are a few updated photos of my sweeties....I am so in love!! They are such calm and sweet tempered babies.:icecream:

They are so precious! Sounds like they are both doing great! Your supply seems good, but you are right- you have to keep it up. Pumping around the clock must be exhausting- I hope you are able to rest enough!

Awwww they are gorgeous and looking strong! So glad to hear they are putting on weight and hurray for no more tubes! Great work on the pumping mamma, WTG! That is tough work, it is awesome Levi is latching already and I hope Sofia gets into it soon too.

They look great! Hats off to you for being so diligent about pumping and wonderful news about Levi! Hopefully Sofia will show more interest in nursing soon. You're doing a fabulous job.

Awww little sweethearts! Glad to hear they're doing well! Don't give up on the BF... they just never got that immediate bonding/BF times with mommy so it will just take them a little longer, they'll pick it up though! And great job with your pumping, too!

Thank you ladies for your replies!

Today I had a surprise when I arrived to visit....they were in open cribs!:eek: No more isolettes for them! Wowee....I thought we had a few more days before they would be doing that. Although it is great news, I am a bit worried because it means that Levi may be discharged before Sofia because he hasn't had a single brady episode. If he keeps up his feedings in the open crib and continues to gain weight they may let him go home soon. Sofia is having less bradys, but she has to go a week without any before she can go home.

I will need a clone. I guess my DH will spend time in the NICU and I will stay home with Levi with occasional visits to NICU, but it will be so hard for me. Hopefully she will be able to come home soon after he does....

Here is another photo I love! I think it is so magical when I hold them together. They really seem to communicate.

Wow - they are flying along in the NICU. Good job to you all. I love hearing about all the milestones. They are adorable. I hope the brady incidents go away so they can go home together. Please keep updating and posting pics. I love reading about them Smile
