Vaccination thoughts?

I was just wondering if you girls will be vaccinating your LO's (or if you already have)? Why or why not? This is NOT meant to be a debate, I'm just weighing it for myself and would like some additional input! I did with all three of my other kids, but it's my opinion that my son Maximus was adversely affected by his three year old round of shots. His attitude and personality changed drasticly as soon as he got them, and because of that it's made me scared to do it again. DD still hasn't had that round of shots...

Krystal, I'd recommend Dr. Sears' (the attachment parenting guru) book on vaccinations:

I wasn't vaxed, which was a LOT less common in the '80s than today. It required some serious paperwork "shuffling" when I applied for a passport and lived on-campus in College. My parents made that choice because they knew a few families, including a practicing M.D., who believed their children developed autism in response to vaccinations.

We're holding off - we might do a few shots down the road, but none for now Smile

I posted over on Dec but from all the research I've done I have no vacc fears and follow the ped schedule. I actually just got my own TDap again and need to bug DH to go update his too!

We have just done our 1st round plus the oral infant rotovirus vacc which is only covered under medical as of Jan 1st. I have no vacc fears. Liam took it well and has been much as usual, perhaps a touch crankier but otherwise fine. Before getting PG I had MMR booster but was a bit stressed about that one as was TTC.

We are doing shots on schedule. No fears what so ever. I use to administer these shots when I worked for a pediatrician. Even my shots are up to date...seeing as how my career requires it since I'm subjected to so many bugs. I could potentially expose Carter because of work so it is best for him to stay on schedule.

Did you ever get any vax? If so, which ones and why? And how old were you? Have you ever had any of the ilnesses that the vaxes would have covered? Sorry for all the questions, I just never knew anyone who made it to adulthood w/out vax.

My mom held off until we went to school and just did them "as required" after that.

As for my kids, #1 got her first vax (tetanus) at ~16 mo old. She fell down the steps and cut her eyelid. My husband freaked and ran to the hospital and asked for it. She got the first round there, but I could never find a doctor to do the booster. Her next vax came when she was 2 or 3, (MMR) we had heard there was a measles outbreak in town, so we got it. She spent ~the next 10 days in/out of the hospital.

I don't think #2 has any vax, but maybe?

#3 hasn't had anything so far.

I just try to weigh the likelihood they will get it (like hep, they most likely won't be in a situation where they contract it, so that can wait, if we do it) and the sickness itself (like chicken pox, they might get, but I don't see it as that horrible). these are just my opinions, I have nothing to back it up.

I have done it will all three of my kids and I am pretty sure stephen has had his shots as well. Keira and kay are getting shots on the same day this time as I didn't want to keep going back to do that, but as it would work out Rob will be taking them as I am doing some volunteer work for my old work. I hope it goes okay with him.

I got my six week series, and then they stopped. I'm frankly not sure what the vax schedule was in the 80's, so I'm pretty sure that means part of the Hep B series, Diptheria (DTap) and Polio, assuming not much has changed. I also did the gardasil series in college. Full disclosure: I was home schooled in grade school, but I've never had any serious sicknesses. My younger 4 siblings are totally unvaxed and have also been similarly healthy.

ETA: I don't want to proselytize, because I know this is a highly personal and DIFFICULT choice for families, but if any one wants to PM me for the website of the physician and family friend who believes his son was vaccine injured, I'd be happy to share. But again, I don't want to debate because I know you are all making the right choices for your families Smile

Jasmine, I know exactly what you're talking about, and that's what I think happened to my son Max. He was a perfectly normal toddler until he got his 3 year vaccines, and then everything changed. He started showing many signs of autism, which are still the case today. He doesn't have any of the verbal issues, but he has many other symptoms... of which we're going through the motions of getting him tested by a Dr. who specializes in these things. My eldest had all of his shots with no problems, and DD had her shots up until now (she just turned three years old last month and I'm scared to get her the next round of which I think did something to Max). I really don't know what to do...
