Waterbirth Update - Always a Snag in the Plans...

Hi Ladies!

So, most of you know about the waterbirth opportunity I posted last week. On Friday, we met the midwife. She is absolutely wonderful and we hit it off very well! The boys had lots of questions and we had fun talking about giving birth at home and all that is involved.

After our meeting, I felt great about transferring my care to her. Actually, DH and I decided to have dual care with my current OB. Didn't want to burn any bridges with my doctor before we were 100% sure this is going to happen.

So glad we didn't say anything to OB...

On Sunday, I got a call from the MW who let me know that the producer is having trouble getting the funds to finance this project (the documentary on the MW). The producer wants her to go ahead and do my birth and get reimbursed for it. The MW doesn't want to do it that way...she wants and needs to get paid. The MW knows my financial situation and the fact that there is NO WAY DH and I can come up with her fee in the next 4 weeks ( I think baby is coming in 3 weeks...). So we are in limbo right now until funds are released to pay the MW.

When my doula presented me with this opportunity, she mentioned bartering my ASL (sign language) services to teach her ASL with her midwife services. I'm all for that and my doula said the MW was all for it, but I don't think the MW wants to do it this way.

Sigh...so, unless the production company finances the project in advance, I may just have to stick with my unmedicated hospital birth plans....

I cried about this yesterday and today before work. I'm actually teary eyed right now as I type! I really want this...but I am going to let the Universe work out the outcome and accept whatever happens.

Stay tuned...

Aww, it would be great if it works out, but it is a bummer that it's so up in the air when you at least want your plans sorted!

Oh Tamara, I'm so sorry about this. I know how much it sucks to get your hopes up about something and have it not work out. I know you were very much looking forward to doing this. Just try and look at it this way... everything happens for a reason. You might not know it now (and it might be super frustrating!) but you never know. Please KUP on this!!

What a bummer!! I am so sorry that this is not going the way you had hoped--I'll still keep my fingers crossed that they can get the funding and for you to get the birth you wanted.

What a roller coaster! 3 weeks is still a long time to get funding approved, if somebody makes an effort in that company... Funny, I thought the money would be the least of the worries!
Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

I agree with your DH. I wish they would still do the homebirth though... for your sake.
Either way, you might end up piloting a brand new show! Go Tamara!!
