What are you doing.....or not doing???

So what have you changed since you found out you were PG?? Are you eating deli meat, peanut butter, soft cheeses, dying your hair, using microwaves etc???? Are there things your doc has suggested you do or not do??

Most of my other PG I was extrememly careful - never wanted to do anything that I thought could contribute to a m/c. This time around I have been so sick I ate whatever I could. Had subway one night with meat - warmed it though. Peanut Butter toast was the only thing I could eat for days. Now that I am feeling better I am trying to have a much more balanced diet. Making sure I drink tons of water...it helps that I am really thirsty. I did buy a hair dye today. I held off but my crazy roots are so bad. My doc said it was OK and I always read you could dye in the second trimester and I am pretty close. I am pretty relaxed about things...which is so not me. How are you all doing with the do's and don't?

I am probably the worst example of "what to do while your pregnant"

I LOVE peanut butter on toast, have been eating it like a mad woman. I have had sushi on a couple of occasion, i know this is a big no no since the rice could carry listeria - I buy from a reputable store I know that's its all made fresh. I've had subway too, and takeaway Indian.

I think its fine to dye your hair as long as you are in a well ventilated area. I know I will probably dye mine at some point, its looking shabby.

my doctor wrote the book, "preventing miscarriage". i trust him as he is noted as being one of the best and has patients who come from all over the world to see him. the ONLY thing he has ever said is to not have raw fish or raw meat and only 1.5 cups of coffee per day. everything else is fine in moderation. in fact, he was always telling me during my last pregnancy to have a glass of wine b/c i was so high strung! lol. he meant ONE glass like once a week not like a whole lot of booze.

i have gone through lists with him of things that i've read are no-nos and he said that most of it is nonsense! i eat peanut butter pretty much every day and did with my last pregnancy. i've had some cold cut sandwiches (just make sure they are from a credible source). and i'm getting my hair highlighted hopefully this weekend!

some people are so sick during pregnancy that i feel like whatever they can get down they should eat!

My doc has no qualms about PB honestly I've never even heard not to eat it LOL I eat that plenty, so does my 16 month old LOL it's a staple here.

I haven't been drinking coffee but that's only b/c the idea of it makes me want to barf LOL I know that will fade in the coming weeks and I'll drink it in moderation like I did with Evan. I like a cup a day or 2 cups of 1/2 caf.

I haven't had deli meat but again more b/c the idea sounds gross (like all meat, sigh). I tend to avoid it but I don't eat it all that often anyway so it's not hard to just avoid it

I miss wine LOL but I don't see much point to drinking even if a glass occasionally is safe, just figure why? But I do miss it lol

I just had my hi-lights touched up and went blonder for the summer.

I adore feta and still eat it about once a week.

I still eat Subway whenever I feel like it. I don't eat deli meat from my grocery store anyway so no big loss there.

I eat peanutbutter. Especially with apples.

What's wrong with pb? I have never heard that. With my first i was very cautious did everything by the book, etc. Now i do watch out, but not out of fear like before. I eat lunch meat, but here i think it is different than the way it is processed in usa. Only stay away from unpastuerized cheeses, but those are hard to come by unless i am eating at some hut in the alps. I don't really drink alcohol or caffeine anyway, nor do i smoke.

They say eating peanut butter can cause a peanut allergy in babys and with peanut allergys being so bad some people opt to stay away from them.My Dr said most of the foods that are of limits during pregnancy are common sense. He did however say that soft cheese is often the worst of the worst.
I have been told it is ok to dye my hair and to tan still as well.

I am also a relaxed kind of preggy. I can't take prenatals either, so there is that.

My doctor suggested that I take a baby aspirin occasionally ( I had a small blood clot after my D&C last year) but I don't feel comfortable with it.
I have been pregnant for so many months, last 15 years that , that there is no way I am going to cut out so many things.

-no coffee (really hard right now, work is exhausting and I am a zombie when I get home)
-no deli meat unless warmed
-no feta or bleu cheese, etc

Never heard of the PB thing!
Um, I still drink 1.5 cups of coffee a day (down from 4+) so I am a zombie.
I eat feta cheese occasionally, mainly because I forget that I am not supposed to eat it.
No booze.
Taking my prenatals every day.
The things I need to get better about are drinking water and snacking healthier.

You can eat feta as long as it's pasteurized and if you're buying it at a grocery store it is Smile A farmer's market or something you prob have to be careful but every restaurant and chain store I went to doesn't sell unpasteurized b/c of the risks - they don't want to be sued Wink

- not drinking coffee or iced tea(which is killing me)
- have cut back on my chocolate intake
- tried to do the heated up deli meat and it tasted nasty, so I gave that up (I will eat deli meat from a very reputable deli near us)
- doing sushi, but nothing raw and no tuna
- other than that, just eating sensibly and drinking lots of water

My awesome track record of super healthy eating pre-pregnancy is LOST in a wash of (gluten free) carbs. I am carefully observing no more than one serving of fish a week, but its been sounding pretty gross anyway. I have a few diet cokes a week. I have peanut butter when it sounds good -- maybe twice a week. And I might just have two ounces of wine (0.07% of my current body weight) on my SO's birthday at the end of July. I'm so bad!!!!!!

i will be eating plenty of hot dogs this summer. what's the summer without hamburgers and hotdogs?? mmm, jen that chili dog sounds great!

i dunno, maybe because it's my second kid i'm a lot less stressed about the "rules" of eating because i found out that it really doesn't matter! lol! it's the same as eating when not pregnant - everything in moderation!

this has nothing to do with what you can and can't eat but just needed to share my snack from last night - mango sorbet. mmm, it was like i died and went to heaven. i highly recommend it!

Oh I'll have hot dogs too! And how I wish coffee sounded good to me. I miss enjoying coffee but seriously the very idea of it makes me gag. It's getting nice and iced DD coffee is my favorite....well I am saving money I suppose LOL

i had a pedi last week. again, if you're going to a reputable place it's fine. it's the same for anyone - pregnant or not pregnant - there is always a risk of infection so you need to make sure the place you go to is clean!

So true...you can get warts and other skin infections if you go to a place that doesn't clean their tools and equipment properly.

You almost faint walking past some of those places, all the fumes! I wouldn't dare go in one!

Oh ya I'd avoid the high fume nail places but I had a mani at my hair place a few weeks ago. No fumes besides using some nail polish. I didn't have fake nails put on or anything and I was the only person there lol So no fumes. I'd definitely go back and I'd like to get a pedicure.....but will probably get too cheap LOL The places where the people wear masks and it smells like a chemical factory I avoid even when I'm not prego!

wow i'm so surprised at the fumes talk! the places i go to are pretty well ventilated! but i could see how it could be a little nauseating!

i had my hair highlighted and cut yesterday and at one point i was like, "oh that chemical stinks." lol, oh well. i live in the bronx. i'm sure the fumes i breathe in every day are much worse! besides, my hair looks great! Smile definitely ready for vacation!

yes he IS going with us! he is free to fly until he's two so we didn't get him a seat. i'm really dreading the flight but i figure even if he is horrible the whole time, at the end of it we'll be in paradise! we're staying for two weeks so we'll have time to recover from the flight before having to do it again!

i sure am going to miss the fruity cocktails. i'll just pretend with some virgin ones Smile

Well let me know how the flight goes!! I've wanted to go to Hawaii FOREVER but can't imagine making the flight with Evan.....the train to NYC was enough to make me want to drug him and knock him out LOL It was one of those places we should have gone pre-kids that just didn't happen. 2 weeks is pretty great though and I think any flight stress will be well worth it!

The place I go to is well ventilated and all the tools are hermitically (sp?) sealed in packaging.. so I think I'm ok. Smile

Good luck with the flight.. super jealous you get to spend 2 weeks in paradise!
