5 lbs in a week!

So ever since I got pregnant I had been losing weight mostly due to the morning sickness. I finally got some of my appetite back but I haven't been over eating or eating junk but I stepped on the scale today and it says I am up 5 lbs since last time I weighed which was between a week and two weeks ago. I'm already way over weight and I was hoping not to start gaining back yet but now I'm having issues breathing. I'm just wondering how I gained that much that quickly. Could it be retaining some water, swelling, or (sorry tmi) but I have been constipated?!

Weight can be a tricky thing. It can fluctuate 2 lbs either way in one day based on water retention, what you've eaten, if you've exercised, etc. I wouldn't worry too much, especially since you have lost weight so far. Just try to choose healthy foods and eat when you're hungry and avoid over eating.

From personal experience, if you are constipated it can definitely add a pound on. and I also agree with PP, maybe you should weigh again in a couple of days and see if it has changed Smile I wouldn't worry too much!

I wouldn't worry about it, weight fluctuates because of soooooo many different reasons. I'm a bit overweight too and I know that my weight gain each day can fluctuate up to a 4-5lb difference by the end of the day but I always weigh the same the next morning. Did you weigh yourself in the morning or at night? Even if you did gain a few extra pounds it doesn't really matter all that much unless you gain like 20lbs in a week, then I would say it's an improper diet and not just random factors playing into the weight difference.

I agree with what other ladies have said. Maybe up your fiber and try to monitor/lower your sodium and see what happens with the scale.

i think it could be all of the above, water retention and constipation. i had pizza one night for dinner last week and my weight went up the next day - after a week of making my own dinner and eating low salt foods (pay attention to the sodium, i started to seriously, everything i buy is low sodium, or no salt added, i even tell them when i go out to eat 'please don't add any salt')--well after the week of eating better my weight went down a bit (not drastically), but i felt less swollen and all.
drink LOTS OF WATER too.

oh and no matter how sensibly i eat - the weight just keeps coming on.

i do not eat junk food, i only drink water, and i never stuff myself full, and i gain weight so easily right now, im trying to accept it (IT'S HARD)... i'm already 11 lbs up, last time i checked...

I just weighed today and I'm up 13lbs... I think I''ll buy a tredmill and at least walk some since I put my gym membership on hold! I do NOT want to get as huge as I did last time (50 lbs)!

i try to walk as much as possible, i walk outside on nice days - and i have a gym membership to just walk on the treadmill for too hot, or rainy days. i hope walking is enough - i try to walk for 30-45 minutes... i have pregnancy work out dvd's but i just don't enjoy them.

I'm going to try walking more to get my stamina up and hopefully I won't get so winded anymore

I just had to make you feel a little better by telling you that I weighed myself today and I have gained 6lb in 3 days!! I did eat a whole entire pizza to myself one night though (woops!).
