Bathing New Baby

How many times a week do you give your newborn a sponge bath?

Pediatrician said a couple of times a week - I last bathed Kyla on Sunday night and was supposed to last night, but the whole day/night got away from us and before I knew it i was eating dinner at 8:00PM and getting her bottle reaady - I was so exhausted and DH took over - of course we had a situation where she peed all over herself and DH got frazzled leaving her naked too long (i think she got cold and it really upset her) at which point nothing could calm her down but me -and even then every 10 minutes she would start screaming until I could calm her down again (finally she had another bottle and fell asleep), so i was thinking i'd give her another sponge bath today or tonight, but have i let her go too long without being bathed since the last time i did it was Sunday (today is Friday).

Its good. Think of how many times a day you wipe her diaper area. A couple times a week is good., much more and it drys out their skin Sad

We bathe Gideon every couple of days. I think Wednesday was when we bathed him last and we will probably bathe him either tonight or tomorrow.

I just wipe her down as needed, so she's been wiped down once she we got home (got home a week ago Wednesday). Their natural oils are best left alone unless they've got a skin issue. Zoe's skin is a bit dry, so I definitely don't want to be bathing her! Not like they get dirty most days.

Unless he's dirty, we wait until his hair starts looking a bit greasy to bathe him. As others have said, their skin will dry out quickly (especially in the winter!), and they do get wiped down in the diaper area ever couple hours during the day. So it's definitely okay to let them go more than a day or two without a bath. You're doing fine. Smile

We go every three or four days which was the schedule the NICU used. With Sebastian we went more towards 4 days due to his eczema

thanks! Smile

yes, i have noticed, she has dry skin around the back of her neck, her belly and her hands, so i put lotion on her even without a bath one day.

Gideon had really dry feet the first couple of weeks but I think we were just over bathing him. I actually just gave him a bath tonight so that was about 4 days we went without bathing.
