Beta numbers? Anyone? *UPDATED*

UPDATE-----
My appt went great! Bummed I had to go against what I wanted and get the ultrasound, but it was important to make sure I wasn't having twins! I had a vag. ultrasound and I saw a very very tiny bean with a flickering heartbeat!! There was only one sac, though she said because I'm not even 6 weeks, she can't be 100% sure until my next appt. If we decide to go with the hospital and not homebirth, then my next appt (in 6 weeks if I keep it) I will just check my numbers again, and if they're still high I will do another ultrasound. I'm hoping that doesn't happen.

I'll probably put something on Facebook soon...I have already told most of my family, but not my mother, and I really don't care to tell her, but I know I have to wait to put anything on fb until I say something to her...so I guess I'll wait. Maybe in a week or two...

I went in for my prenatal labs yesterday and had a quantitative hcg lab done as well. I was 5 weeks 3 days that day, and my number was 16,630. I went online to try and find where my levels should be at, and found this:

5 Weeks 18 to 7340
6 Weeks 1,080 to 56,500

So, where it says 5 weeks, does that mean that's what the levels should be at 5 weeks exactly, or all during my fifth week? Seems a bit high to me...

Did anyone else get their numbers around this time?

Never had mine done at that time but I think that means by the 5 week mark, your levels would be in that range and then by the 6 week mark,at the next level. Your number sounds great to me!

To me that seems a bit high for 5 weeks - my Beta Reference range on my lab results lists:
4 weeks as 3-426
5 weeks as 19-7340
6 weeks from 1080-56500

That means that any where between those numbers during that week is considered normal. At 4 weeks exactly I was 74, at 5 weeks exactly I was 2840, and I'll go in for HCG (this thurs) at 6 weeks exactly as well. So that number seems more consistent with 6 weeks post LMP. Maybe you're actually further along than you thought? (Even a few days would make a difference in HCG levels). Either way I think this range is just a reference guide, everyone's body is different and all that matters is that the number continues to rise. Smile

Have you had an ultrasound yet?
I hear multiple pregnancy also have higher ranges?

Mine were in the 12,000's when I went in at 5 weeks 3 days (EDD ended up being off by 3 days, so I was actually 5 weeks and 6 days). So, either you have 2 buns in your oven, or you're further along Wink Either way, I would take it as a good sign Smile

Could be twins, never know until you get a scan! Sounds like a great number though either way Smile

I had hcg taken at 23 dpo with DD, and it was over 18000. Seriously, I was convinced I was having a molar pregnancy or twins. But no, it was just one and she was perfectly healthy. So what's 23 dpo? Like 5w2d? I think your numbers are just fine. Smile

ETA: My dates were correct, too, based on the dating ultrasound, so it wasn't that I was further along.

Numbers can vary so much from person to person and pregnancy to pregnancy.
Look at this chart! http://www.betabase.info/showBasicChart.php?type=Single

The silly base nurse wouldn't tell me what my numbers were at 6 weeks other than "very high."

Today is my first real appointment (Monday I had a paperwork/lab appt), and while I was not planning on getting an ultrasound (except for the 20 week gender ultrasound), I think I might to make sure it is not twins. I'll see what my doc says about the numbers, if she thinks they're high...and if so, then I'm gonna get the ultrasound. Twins would definitely change my homebirth plan, so I better find out early if that's the case...

No, they kept my original due date of November 30th. I was 99.9% sure of my o date, so I wasn't expecting them to change it anyway.

Thats awesome. I am horrible at knowing when I O'd.... I am even worse at charting. I tried to do the OPK tests for a while, but wasnt getting prego. Then, the month that we decide to take a break, and I didnt use them, is the month that I got prego. Go figure.

Mine were 54,000 at 6 weeks, which was about 1k more than the predicted ranges i found on the internet. The "normal" range for HCGs is pretty huge, so it's hard to ever know what they mean aside from "baby present". As long as they're going up, then that is the key! Glad your appts are going well.
