Constipation (TMI)

Is anyone else experiencing it??? I had like three days towards the end of my pregnancy with DS but nothing like this... I had some issues in the beginning and it got better but the past few days have been unbearable. Its like I always have to go but I can't. I'm drinking water, eating raisins, eating lots of fiber. I'm not heavy at all for my size (at least pre pregnancy and between my 11 week and 16 week checkup I hadn't gained any weight). So then what is actually up??? I'd like my stomach to stop hurting some time between now and the end of pregnancy.

I dealt with this early on and have been drinking the 100% juice from frozen where you just add water. It keeps me very regular!

Oh I feel your pain! I have been dealing with this too. I never have this issue so I am still trying to figure out what I need to do to help my body. My Dr told me I could take a stool softener so I have been doing that and I have been drinking something caffienated in the AM to help me out. I know caffiene is not the best thing for the baby but one drink really does seem to help the other issue. I am not really a huge juice fan this pregnancy so I haven't been able to bring myself to drink it, but my friend told me that she used to mix half orange juice and half prune juice and drink it every day. She said that you couldn't taste the prune juice when you mix them and that it really helped her. I hope you feel better!

i was constipated the first pregnancy. my midwife recommended colase, which is over the counter. also, have you ever eaten a lot, i mean A LOT, of watermelon? that will do the trick. i was very constipated after giving birth to my son and my mom cut up a whole watermelon. i don't know how much i ate, a few bowls worth and that's all i needed. ha ha. and, it's low calorie, too.

Yeah...me too. It seems to come and go, not sure why. I was told to try some kiwi fruit juice, it worked well after I had DD. I haven't tryed anything yet.

I deal with it even when I am not pregnant (sometimes is better, it also is somewhat dependent on my thyroid levels since I have no thyroid). Anyways, I have taken magnesium, miralax, senna lax, and sometimes suppositories in the past to help combat. Viatmins do not help the situation. At one point my thyroid doc wanted me to take higher levels of calcium and that was not good, I had to quit. This is even while on Weight Watchers and eating lots of fruits and veggies. It is ridiculous why I have this problem. Anyways, now pregnant, it is worse. I was taking magnesium and that helps a little but now the doctor has me on miralax everyday. It has never been super effective for me but it help especially taking it every day. I have had a colonoscopy and a infection once due to it.
Exercise does help me too. Good luck, I feel your pain!

I was so desperate for anything last night that I took two senna... Today I'm feeling much better. I did email my doctor and she said that as long as I'm not taking them reguarly I should be okay. Today I'm back to eating apples and pears just to stay normal. I don't want to go through that again. I just remember if I think its bad now, wait till after labor. I hated that part of postpartum.

I am glad you are doing better today. That is what the doctor told me as well about senna ( although I once had another doctor that said it safe for regular use). They all have said Miralax is safe on a daily basis and my ob told me to just take it daily and keep regular. Hope you find something to help on a regular basis.
