The ultrasound went pretty well. Baby is still measuring about a week and a half "behind", but everything else looks good... including my cervix. Yay! They also did a NST on me. The results were acceptable, but not great. I think she said it was reassuring, not reactive. And apparently reactive is what they're looking for? They'd like me to come back in again to have another done just to make sure everything is okay.
As for the contractions, they think my interstitial cystitis is causing me to have an irritable uterus, so I'm either having more BHs than average, or else I'm feeling them more than average. The painful ones I had Wednesday night were probably caused when baby moved into head-down position (yay, no more transverse baby!). Apparently it's not uncommon for that to happen?
So all things considered, a pretty good appointment. They're still keeping an eye on possible IUGR, but otherwise everything looks normal!
So as you might remember, I've been having episodes where I had regular contractions every 4-5 minutes for about 2 hours or so. I was taking a magnesium supplement for them, and since about a week into starting the magnesium they had been milder, less regular, and lasting for shorter periods of time. Also, the contractions only came after a day when I'd really overdone it. I really thought we had it under control.
Yesterday I didn't even come close to overdoing it. It was just a regular day. But at church last night I started having these weird pains in my belly. I thought maybe it meant that he was pushing on my ribs (DD never did that, so I don't know how it feels), though it could also have been a contraction. It was very painful and making me catch my breath. By the time we got home from church I was starting to have semi-painful contractions, though not super close together. Maybe 6-7 minutes apart? I took my magnesium with a cup of water, and lay down to rest, hoping I could just ignore them and go to sleep. By 10:30 I could no longer ignore them.
I'm not going to call the contractions I felt last night Braxton-Hicks because that just wouldn't do them justice. They were way too painful, intense, and regular to just pass them off as BH. Ouch. They started off every 5 minutes, then got more intense and every 4 minutes. Then more painful and intense and 3 minutes apart. They weren't just in the front, either. They would start in the front but I would quickly start feeling it in my lower back. These felt very crampy, like the bad sort of AF cramps. There was one in particular that I was having to gasp through it was so painful. I was all ready to call the on-call midwife and go to the hospital.
... and then all of a sudden they started spacing out. They were coming every 6 minutes, and not so intense. I was finally able to fall asleep, sort of. I still feel really crampy, even now, and that kept me waking up several times last night. But since they weren't contractions, I tried not to worry and to go back to sleep.
I suppose I need to call my midwife this morning, don't I, to let her know about it? It's so frustrating. It's obviously false labor because it stopped all on its own, but it does seem awfully intense for this early on.
And it got me thinking, just how many of us on this board are going to wind up having our babies before November??
