Hello all, i just had my first prenatal appointment and it was rather uneventful. We couldn't hear the heartbeat, which was disappointing since I was looking forward to it. She said it is normal to not hear the heartbeat until at least 12 weeks and I am 11 weeks now. The only feedback I got was when the midwife exclaimed, "well, you are definitely pregnant, your uterus is huge!" This is my second pregnancy so I guess it has expanded quite well. Lots of room for the baby to swim around.
No u/s? Bummer! Okay so nobody on November is having twins - YET. But I'm nominating you, miss huge uterus!! Haha, I'm just teasing, but really...we've got to have twins on this board, and since what you've got in the is top secret...just sayin'!!!
Glad you had a good appointment though!!

That's a hummed you didn't get to hear the heart beat but at least your uterus is doing good things!

I have yet to hear the HB too! My office doesn't even try to find a heartbeat till after 10 weeks and even then they don't worry till 13 weeks if it's not picked up. They don't do 1st tri ultrasounds for most patients as long as everything appears to be normal and you have an idea of how far along you are. They even trust charting (which is unusual)! It was hard going to my first appointment at 9 weeks and being told that they won't even try yet for a HB, but in reverse I know I'll be thankful for the hands off approach come the 3rd trimester.
Having a good sized uterus is a GREAT sign!
I'm in the same boat as you - had my checkup today and no heartbeat detected. Very disappointing. I don't have an ultrasound scheduled until next week. The wait is excruciating - I feel your frustration, that's for sure. Like alwayssmile, my midwives don't do early u/s and are hands-off (won't induce, etc.). They also changed my due date based on my temp charting - love that they are open minded and willing to work with me.
lol. Don't scare her. Good size uterus could just mean that you are right on track for where you are supposed to be. Depending on how the baby is laying, or where your placenta is, it could just be harder to find the HB. As long as everything else checks out, sounds like it does,
you are ok. I know its hard not to worry. Thats what us moms do, after all
