Mid way through this cycle I had smear results come back as 'abnormal with high grade changes' so i was booked in to have a coposcopy.
It was really interesting to see my cervix so close up and I could clearly see the abnormal cells, which was interesting. They did a biopsy (which hurt!) and it was all over pretty quick!
They did say that I might have a little bit of cramping and some spotting but argh, it's never nice when you are pregnant to have spotting AND cramping. I have found the cramping to be quite bad, like normal AF cramps but the spotting is only light.
Has anyone had experience with this at all? How long did the cramping last? I also forgot to ask at what point with the cramping/spotting should I worry. I kind of guess if i start bleeding like AF or the pain is unbearable...
I've never had a colposcopy, but all day Sat I had very painful AF like cramps. I didn't have spotting just cramps, but my specialist told me they were quite common in the first trimester as your uterus stretches. They said to take baby Tylenol if needed and if I had excessive bleeding to go to the ER. i would say that you know your body, if things don't feel right go to the ER. When I had my iud out I has spotting for 2 days so id assume it would be similar to that.
I had no idea you were going through that! No idea how long you will have bleeding/cramping, but I hope it isn't long. I thought I read somewhere a few years ago (when I was paranoid about a pap smear during early pg) that abnormal changes are common during pregnancy, but it isn't as much of a concern because a vaginal birth removes a lot of those cells. Hope everything's ok!
I've had 4-5 colposcopy's now... And a LEEP for Cervical Cancer... the cramping will go away within 2 days, maximum. I have never had one done while pregnant, so I am not sure when you should worry, but I think if it gets any worse then period cramps or the bleeding gets heavier, to see a doc. I never bled more then spotting after a colposcopy and only for a couple of hours...

I had the procedure done almost a year ago. Definite cramping, but I don't think I had any spotting. The cramping went away with in a day. I was not pregnant at the time though. That's got to be a little scary :O(
Good Luck. Hope your results some out ok. I have consistant abnormal paps and it all seems to be fine.
On a side note: I didn't get to "see" anything while they were doing it. That must have been pretty cool.
