Hemo ---something??

Kyla has a big red birthmark on her left nostril, everyone keeps asking what it is, and if she scratched herself but i know it's been there since birth it just keeps getting bigger/darker as she gets bigger... the pediatrician said it may get bigger before it goes down - they also said it may be a hemotobin (i think thats what they call it) and it may even bubble out =/ i know things can be worse so i am not freaking out and being vein, i just becom concerned when it's in the middle of her face- especially since it seems like that nostril is slightly more downward then the other... they said we may have to get it removed... i'm hoping it goes away soemhow... anyone else have anything like this with any of your children?

on a positive note, we are 2 days short of kyla being 3 months old and she has been sleeping in her crib ALL NIGHT, with no wake ups for the past 3 nights! i am so proud of her! she's such an angel we all keep joking that my next child will probably be a terror!

I have never heard of a hemotobin. I wonder if it a small hemangioma? Maybe see if a dermatologist could look at it? Both of my kiddos have stork bites up the middle of their foreheads and at the nape of their necks.

My niece (my husband's brother's little girl) has one. Hers is pretty big and on the side of her face. They are harmless and usually grow, and then shrink and eventually go away. My nieces's is pretty big and is probably going to require plastic surgery to repair the area when she gets older since it is so big. I wouldnt stress about Kyla's too much. You cant even see it in the photo in your siggy. She is gorgeous momma, and A OK Smile

Natalie- If I remember correctly it is believed that a picece of the placenta or something breaks off while things are first forming when you are prego. Those cells float around and attach to the fetus. Then, as the baby grows, so do those cells. There are verying degrees of them, but the majority dont require any intervention and go away on their own by the time the child is 5 or so. They typically start getting duller and color and start the shrinking process when the child is about a year, year and a half, or so old.

Yeah Gideon has a stork bite on the nape of his neck. Never happened with Sophia. She just has a birthmark that is actually a type of mole and birthmark in one. Funny thing is it looks like Gideon is getting the same thing on the opposite side of his face and this is right around the time Sophia's showed up and he has a huge birthmark on his butt lol
