My dad works for the telephone company in NC. He's a supervisor so he's always on call. I remember when Floyd hit, he was taking showers at his office because he couldn't go home because there was SO much work. His yard was a mess, but thankfully all the tornadoes left his house alone.
everyone is freaking out here in baltimore. my husband spent the day raking leaves hoping that they won't clutter up the gutters and create flooding on the street. it's been a few hours and unfortunately, you can't even tell that he raked since so many more leaves have fallen since! today i got my order of girl scout cookies. good timing on those. i went food shopping today but didn't know what to get. i ended up buying a lot of cheese and apples!
People have been freaking out here as well, only because we had really bad flooding during Irene last year and the area is just barely recovering.
We've stocked up on water and we don't have to worry about cooking because we have a gas stove and oven, so that helps a ton. We'll just cook up what we've got in the freezer if the power goes out. I am a little nervous about going into labor though. I haven't been feeling well this past week, and I just started having some painful contractions but nothing consistent.
i'm worried as it gets closer, but i would have been worried pregnant or not. things like this are so unpredictable and i really just can't wait until it's over.
with all the schools and sate offices closing i really hope that DH doesn't go to work, from what it sounds like he is staying home; i just keep saying to him, "what if i DO go into labor and you can't get home from work and no one can get to me and i'm here alone in labor!" ... ha, i just don't want him to go - aside from me being pregnant it's just plain dangerous for him to be out driving... no one should be on the roads if it's declared a 'state of emergency' and i think it has been.

thank you <3
if he absolutely has to go to work i'd make him drive me to my mom's when he was on his way in, my mom lives a couple blocks away from me and she is a school secretary - her school is already closed Monday and Tuesday so she'll be home. I'm pretty sure he's staying home tomorrow, i'm just crossing my fingers that if it's very bad he also stays home Tuesday.
how is everyone holding up so far? i'm wondering if any of us will go into labor today.
i'm doing good - DH stayed home from work and his job ended up closing early anyway so that was good.
i woke up, showered, then i cooked and cleaned all morning - since i've been relaxing. so far we still have power and its just been very windy. i hear we're supposed to get hit with it hard tonight - so i'm crossing my fingers and hoping that i don't go into labor and that we don't lose power....
how are you doing august?
Stay safe everyone in storms way!!
