Maternity tours at hospitals

Is anyone going to check out hospitals to see where they want to deliver or for BTDT moms are you just going to previous hospitals? I actually have a tour scheduled for Monday because I am thinking of delivering at the other hospital that my Dr delivers at. I heard it is nicer and I really want to check it out and see for myself.

This will be my third delivery at this hospital. It's been completely redone, so it would be fun to go see it, but dragging all four of my kids with me makes me think I'll just wait till the big day Smile

At the hospitals down here you aren't allowed to bring children with you on the tours, so my mom is watching my Sophia.

This will be my 3rd delivery at our hospital. We have different hospitals where I live, but my OB uses the one closest to their office and I actually really like that one. I have always had a postive experience with the staff, the stay, etc. Plus they just rebuilt it and it's very nice and new. I was planning on doing a tour though because I am planning a natural childbirth this time and I have never talked to anyone on staff about how they handle it there since I have always opted or an epidural. I would just like to be able to ask my questions to see how comfortable I am attempting to do a natural birth there. Otherwise, I will consider going to the birth center here in town, but I love my OB so I really do not want to do that.

I have never toured the hospital I'll be using, but it's my only reasonable option for a VBAC so it's that or home. lol. I actually really want to tour it soon just to get a feel for the place before I write my birth plan, but the lady who does the tour scheduling says she doesn't want women doing it till 36 weeks. WTF. What if I was wanting to explore my options? I mean if I really wanted to have a repeat c/s I would have options! Plus she only does them Monday late afternoons. My husband can't get *any* time off and is just happy that they've agree to let him have 3 days off for the birth of this child, so I'd have to do it without him.......and no kids allowed, and we have no baby sitter here. :banghead:

I never did an official tour of mine. Our hospital is really small, the OB unit is one tiny wing with 4 delivery rooms, and 1 over flow room. Also, my mom works at the hospital, and I have been going there my whole life. I have had stays in the bigger hospital in the main city in our area, and I have to say, I prefer my smaller hospital. I know all the nurses, which ones I like, which ones I dont... I know all the drs, and the OB that I have will more than likely be the one that is there to deliver. Not to mention, you arent just a number on a big floor full of people. You barely have to push a call button and a nurse or someone is right there.

The hospital I delivered DD at is pretty small but I don't really like it, especially since I got sick a few weeks ago and went it and they sent me to labor and delivery and they had a bunch of us crammed in one room with a bunch of beds. Well half the other pregnant ladies had a bad stomach flu and within a few hours of being discharged I got it and was back. It was awful!

Yeah, that would have me looking at other hospital possibilities ASAP! Sad

I am excited about my hospital because I can keep baby with me 24/7 (including ped checks, everything in done in room), they've got a baby friendly designation (aka, very breastfeeding friendly with help available!), and they have birthing balls, tubs, and showers available for during labor - including VBACs like me! Smile BUT I still want to tour it since hospitals are still hospitals with all the negatives of being stuck at a hospital (if a birthing center was an option I'd be doing that).

This will be my third delivery at our Hospital. They are a baby friendly designated hospital and are great! They have a Level 1 through 3 NICU which is wonderful (not that we're expecting to need it, but my DS was there after birth for 5 days and the staff was amazing!)

The only hard part is that it is a teaching hospital, so sometime you never really know who you're going to get. Right now for my OB care I am part of the low risk OB group and see a group of 4 residents who are headed by an attending. So I could get any of them when I deliver. I do get to meet them all beforehand though so that's nice.

The one that I am touring has a level 3 NICU as well. Also not really planning on needing it but you never know. And as far as a teaching hospital the last one I delivered at was a teaching hospital and just as I was waiting on the doc so I could start pushing a group of at least 10 nursing students comes in and the teacher asks if they could watch. At that point I didn't care I just wanted to start pushing so I was like whatever just get the doc in here ASAP and I don't care who is here at this point.
