needin help... fussy baby alert

Im stumped. Since starting the meds for acid reflux Kellen isnt throwing up, and seems to be ok that way. He is less fussy, and easier to calm down, but still fussy. He is getting enough food wise.. I can tell by the fact that hes getting cheeks, pooping, peeing, and drools milk when he finally falls asleep but otherwise only seems the most content the longest with my nipple in his. Ive tried giving hom a nuk, actually have tried several kinds, and he refuses them. It wouldnt be as big of a deal if I didnt have other kids to take care of, and syuff to do. Plus, honestly, I feel my anxiety jump, and restless, especially in the evening, if I cant hand him off or put him down for a bit. His major fussy time is in the evening, which each of my kids have done, but he seems to be more fussy, restless, during the day than the others have done.It would be one thing if he just needed to be held (though, that gets frustrating too) and I could wear him, but he seriously just wants to be latched all the time when hes awake... Not actively nursing, just wants my nipple in his mouth, and its often the only way to get him to stop fussing...

DD was like that. Some children have a very high need to suck, and won't accept any substitutes. She was also a lot fussier than I understand the average baby is (M seems milder-mannered so far, but he's starting to get fussier this week), and a poor sleeper. And when she wanted to nurse, she didn't want to do it in the moby. It was rough going for months.

I had a dog to take care of, but no other children. I honestly don't remember how I dealt with it. I think I often just had to suck it up and let her cry if there was something I needed to do. Dinner was made with a screaming baby in the baby carrier or in the swing for ages. I remember saying at one point that all that screaming was making me go deaf.

I'm sorry I don't have a better answer. But I certainly can relate. Sad Vent away of you need to.

I had one of those too. I had moments where I thought I would go crazy! She is still hyper sensitive,

Ok, another question... What do you make of this?

@ first I thought it was just baby acne (not the best pic but theres white heads on some of the bumps) but now its spread down his neck onto his chest, on his ear, behind his ears, and the back of his neck.

Some kind of allergic reaction? Gideon is being super fussy and they refuse to put him on meds even though he isn't gaining weight properly they said. He is 1 week shy of 2 months and by now he should be gaining about 2 ounces a day but he's gaining only about 5 ounces a week. They were worried he was going to be huge. They switched him to the enfamil hypoallergenic formula but he still has reflux.

*lurk*
this thread popped up under new posts. My DS was like that, just fussy fussy fussy from about week 5 to well... about 5 months maybe? It tapered off more and more starting at 3 months, but he was generally a fussy child. He thankfully took a soother but even with it in he cried for the better part of the day for weeks and weeks on end. I tried everything - various reflux meds, going off soy and dairy (this helped with some digestive issues but the crying remained), and even a total elimination diet.

I never did figure out why he did this but he is now almost 1 and has stopped being so fussy. But up until even a few months ago he was relatively fussy compared to other kids I know. I think that it was colic combined with just a little bit of a fussy character.

I hope your son grows out of this quickly. It is so tough on the nerves!

Hmmm...Ellie had a rash like that, although she was older, 7mo or so. It was itchy. Doc said it was a virus. But after six weeks I hd her tested for allergies, and it ended up being dairy. Have it looked at?

I took Kellen in this morning and the doctor thinks the rash is just a worse case of baby acne than my other kids got. As for the fussiness, colic. He said that it usually lasts from the time they are 3 weeks to an average of when they are 3 months. Oh, and Kellen is now 8lbs 4 oz, thats 1lbs in 2 weeks!!!

if it's colick, try gripe water. I have family and friends who swear by it.

I am so tired. Gideon is super fussy and the new Doc is trying to say it's just colic and not acid reflux but he is still constantly spitting up and sometimes its projectile and it comes out of his nose too now. He did that last night in the middle of the night and was coughing and choking...it was soooo scary. And to top it off he has horrible diarrhea. I have no idea what to do!

my sister swears by gripe water too - she bought me some as part of my shower gift. she used it for gas for her little baby all the time. how soon can you start using the gripe water? thank god i haven't had any problems with her except for hunger cries (knock on wood) but i'm waiting for the day where she has inconsolable gas pains... i know its been too good to be true for me these past 2 weeks.

I could have written your post myself! The boys were all so laid back and easy. Amaris is definitely more high maintenance! She fusses and cries off and on all day long. Nothing really calms her except for nursing. The ped prescribed zantac to see if reflux was a prob (she spits up a lot). I don't think it really made a difference. I was just reading about colic before logging in here and found several people recommended colic calm. I'm going to cvs to get some today. We've been using gripe water for 2 weeks and it hasn't helped much. colic calm is similar to gripe wager but also has a few additional herbal ingredients like peppermint, aloe, and lemon balm. I'm willing to try just about anything. She just seems so uncomfortable and unhappy all the time Sad

Kellen seems a little bit more manageable the last couple of days now that we found a nuk he likes, @ least he can suck on something other than me. Today I was able to lay him down with out a nuk and he napped... I think it was the gas drops (walgreens brand)I gave him just after he ate, combined with the zantac hes been on. Knock on wood. Hes also been sleeping more today, so it could be a growth spurt. I dont know, but Ill take a less fussy, more content day, any way that I can get it Wink

Kostas was a super fussy baby and found that my exercise ball (birth ball) became my best friend. Sitting on that was one of two ways to get him to calm down (nursing being the other). I've heard of many parents of colicky babies using them too.

We use colic calm and of course its not a miracle cure but when Gideon is really bad it helps a lot.

Shauna- A friend of mine told me that too Smile I put mine away after wee dude was born since the kids were using it as a basketball in the house. I'll have to bust it out again and give it a try on a night hes harder to calm.

Tiff- From what I understand the only magical cure is time. Babies just need to out grow it. I remember in school (I went for Early Childhood Ed) that they think its because of immature nervous and/or digestive system. That as they get older, and things develop more as they grow, that it works itself out. The first 3 month are referred to as "unsettled"... Ive also heard it refered to as the 4th trimester... that's why the 5 S's (shoosh, swaddle, suck, sway, and side) are so important and work so well...because they simulate what it would be like if they were still inside the womb. I have been using my sling more, and actually opened the new one I got... only to relize I have no idea how it works lol.
