Not eating enough...?

So, I found some food that I am ENJOYING finally - triscuits & munster cheese with red grapes on the side. ...I've had this for lunch for the past 4 days and today i was so excited about it I posted a picture on facebook saying "best lunch ever!"... i got a little bit of flack from a few friends saying "where's the protein" - "that's not enough for lunch" - "thats what id eat as a snack"...ect... I think some of them may be over cautious w/ me knowing my history with an eating disorder, my last episode was fairly recent and i don't know if i fully got over it prior to getting pregnant, however, i don't have a choice but to be EDfree right now, I HAVE to eat, and I DO... i mean, i can't see how i'm not eating enough when i'm already 8.5+lbs from when i got pregnant...

anyway, i think this really hurt me for a few reasons, 1.) it's the first thing I'VE REALLY ENJOYED eating since i found out i was pregnant... 2.) i know i'm not hitting upon enough of all the food groups that i need to be and it worries me myself... 3.) i have had a really hard time figuring out meals for DH and i this whole time -it's been a nightmare- to the point where i am actually refusing going into the supermarket bc it really upsets me... i make lists for him and he goes...

does anyone else feel like the're not eating enough? and if so what can you do? or have you had experiences like this in past pregnancies...? i'm awaiting cravings and such... don't get me wrong, it's not that i don't eat -i eat meals with snacks between, and most nights i wake up 2x for more snacks, (kids clif bars, uncrustables, poptarts are usually my midnight snacks), during the day i'll eat walnuts, almonds, raisins, ect...(for snacks) for meals i eat more...

i don't know i just felt hurt but i do know the difference between people who are trying to help me and people who are trying to hurt me, i know they are all trying to help with good intentions, i just needed to vent.

Dont let it get to you (I know, easier said then done). The point is, you're eating... you arent limiting your proportions, nor are you binging and purging... you are eating what you can, when you can, and thats all any pregnant woman can do at times. Your baby is obviously growing, and if there was a concern I'm sure it would show on the scale, or your doc would say something. I know I have gone through periods like that with each of my pregnancies, including this one. The amount of protien our society eats isnt the norm in all countries... and every country has happy healthy babies every day. Just do what you can, take your vitamin, and try to ignore those trying to tear you down. Hang in there, it sounds like you have a good appetite, and are doing just fine Smile

I totally agree with what Kier said! Forget those comments...you know your body and your baby will take what it needs from you to thrive. If you honestly feel like you aren't eating enough of the right foods, make a food journal (write down what you're eating for each meal during the day and snacks) and show it to your OB to see what he/she thinks. I, for one, have been thoroughly enjoying cheese and crackers too, lol. And red grapes sound really good right now. Seems like a completely reasonable meal to me...and cheese is protein! I might beef it up a little with another fruit or veggie if you're truly worried it's not enough food. 8.5 lbs seems reasonable for this stage in pregnancy too...especially if you started off on the small side. Oh, and nuts are a GREAT protein-rich snack! I think you're doing fine!!

I had apple pie for lunch yesterday and some fruit for lunch today... all I Can eat is sweet stuff or I throw up... (I had veggies and dip and it came right back up before lunch today so I settled for watermelon) I wonder what they would say to me!

They say the second trimester is great -- but honestly, I'm with you on the portions of eating right now. I cannot eat a whole meal anymore, I have to have snacks, frequently.

Just ignore them. You're doing fine. (hey, atleast you're gaining weight, I weighed myself today and I'm officially down 12lbs.. my OB is going to give me heck tomorrow!)

Ditto to most of the above! You're gaining weight and you're eating. Don't they realize that most pregnant women eat snacks and that we're not literally eating for two?!

I'm probably not eating enough myself considering I'm still nursing DS. I haven't gained a single pound. In fact I lost a few from my stomach virus in April and still haven't gained that all back yet! I know my baby is fine and getting everything s/he needs from me. I eat breakfast, lunch, snack, and dinner right alongside my son, so I am eating. Snacks aren't working out for me this time, but was exactly how I ate last pregnancy.

I completely agree with all PP, I too am just eating what I can...I am still vomiting so much that I have only lost weight. At this point with DD I had put on 10lb at least so yeah....

My M/W made me cross the other day, because my iron was low. She told me I need to eat more green leafy veggies...this is right after I told her that I am hardly keeping anything down and I am just eating what I can....eeer? okay?

I am mostly surviving on candy!

It sounds like you are doing great, eat what you can!! planning meals can help but I often find that if I don't feel like what I have planned for then I won't end up eating it anyway.

My OB just told me to eat whatever and whenever I feel like it. I agree with all the ladies saying don't let what others are saying get to you. You know your body best and if you weren't getting the right stuff it would tell you so. What you're eating sounds perfectly fine to me plus you have a growing baby pushing on your stomach making you feel more full quicker. I've definitely noticed that when I get a break from my ms and can eat I don't eat nearly as much as I normally would and it's probably not even a full serving of anything before I'm totally stuffed and feeling like I might burst. I think the fact that you're not having a craving for anything means that you're getting what your body needs since cravings usually indicate a deficit of something in your diet. Just keep doing what your doing and everything will be fine! Biggrin

I agree with everyone. You're doing the best you can and the fact that you are even worrying about it means that you are paying close attention to it and staying on top of making sure you're getting as much good stuff in your diet as you can! Fruit and nuts are great snacks, and it sounds like you are eating small portions throughout the day, which is so good! With DS1 I lived on peanut butter crackers for a few weeks when nothing else seemed appetizing, and with DS2, I had cereal most nights for dinner for about half the pregnancy. I'd just make sure your doctors know so they can make sure to keep an eye on it with you, but it sounds like you are doing great, mama Smile

Wow thats pretty rude of them to act like that! They must have never been preggo before! I agree with what everyone else said for sure! I survived for 14 weeks on jolly ranchers and ginger ale! As long as you are eating when you can and what you can then you will be fine! I always tried to eat a little more even after I was full and I ended up being sick after that! Its not worth making yourself lose everything you ate, trust me! You are only 15 weeks, so you have 25 more weeks left to eat all you can Smile Trust me you will want to eat more soon Smile

thank you! =') ...it's true, it's like when you over stuff yourself is when you get sick (not all the time, there are those times where you just plain get sick!) but i definitely feel like i cannot overstuff!
