Not a good sleeper...
Sorry its been so long since we checked in. Sean is healthy and happy but NOT the greatest of sleepers. He still wakes up at least once a night, sometimes two to three times a night and he refuses to go back to sleep without the bottle. Last night I broke one of my own rules and tried cereal with him before he's four months old. He loved it. I just put it in the bottle since I don't think he's quite ready for spoon feedings yet. Still though, 3:00 a.m. hit and he woke up. He had nine oz and two tablespoons of cereal. What am I doing wrong? Are boys just like this? Do they ever stop eating? By six weeks old he was taking a six oz bottle. Now he often takes nine oz. This baby is going to eat me out of house and home! Suggestions to get him sleeping are GRATEFULLY accepted.
He's a baby. IMO waking up a few times is normal and expected still. Considering half of 2 year olds still wake up at least once at night, I think a baby under 4 months is doing well to only wake up 1-3 times a night.
Zoe wakes every 1-3 hours right now and eats every time. I think her waking up more often than she was is due to milestones though. She's working really hard on rolling across the room. She was down for the night but woke up very restless after 20 minutes. I laid her on the floor and after 15 minutes of working on her skill she was ready for bed again (after nursing again of course). :)
That is amazing that he's only 4 months old and only waking up 1 to 3 time per night! My son was waking up every 2 hours still at that age and even now at 11 months old he wakes up once a night pretty routinely. I was so happy that he started STTN at 9 months.
As a side note on the cereal: Studies have not shown cereal to improve sleep at all in infants despite very persistent old wives tales regarding cereal and sleep. Putting it in the bottle is actually a choke hazard and rice cereal is just turned into glucose during digestion to it's basically the equivalent of feeding your kid straight sugar with a few vitamins thrown in.

Every baby is different. My oldest didnt sleep through the night till he was 3. My 2nd came home sleeping pretty much through the night. Kellen and DD were both middle of the road. Each also were up more when they were going through growth spurts, sick, teething, and so on. What I have done with Kellen is to make sure he is up more in the afternoon, and evening. That he has plenty of floor time once the other 3 are in bed, and that I allow him to camp out and nurse for a while before bed. Also, I have found that my kids sleep better in their own beds when their heads are slightly elevated. Just a few suggestions, but in the end, it may just be something that he needs to out grow a bit.
My first is such a good sleeper that having a baby who's still not sleeping at four months is a total and complete shock. DS 6 sttn at 6 weeks. I miss that baby! Cereal has helped though. He's down to one time a night right about at 3 am and then most the time till between 6 and 7 a.m. I know cereal isn't the most healthy of options but when you have to get up and go to work in the morning, you just can't keep waking up in the night and be expected to be functional during the day and be expected to be functional in the evening to help the other kids with homework, make dinner, clean up, do bathtime.... and another two feedings of the baby as well as playtime and just regular life.... I just can't keep doing that. So going down to one feeding a night has been a blessing and I'm hoping and praying that this month will be even better.
