For those of you with home Dopplers....

How many times a day are you using yours? and for how long?

I was just thinking about posting something like this Biggrin I don't have a home Doppler and I'm trying to decide if I want to buy/rent one or not, but I don't know if it's even worth it? I know I've gotten uber paranoid lately and I think it might help ease my mind if I could check...

Is it ok to use a doppler frequently? or are they completely harmless?

I used it every 3ish days for 5-10 minutes until I found the HB last Friday night. Haven't touched it since. I'll probably use it once more before my next appointment. I don't feel that it's good to use a doppler all that much. It clearly bothered DS because once I could feel him he'd move away from wherever it was and kick it. He seemed VERY irritated by it. I didn't have a doppler with him and only have one this time b/c my best friend gave it to me. She found it helpful just because she had a large anterior placenta, so she didn't feel the baby till way later than I had felt Aiden (like 8 weeks later!) and the movements weren't nearly as much.

I usually use mine every 3-5 days or so. I can usually find the heartbeat within a minute, it's always in the same spot. So I don't use it very long. Maybe 2-3 min tops.

I'm curious also, for those of you using home dopplers, do any of you have a tipped uterus? And where exactly are you finding the HB?

I have one and I'm pretty sure I've found the HB once but having trouble otherwise. I'm still pretty early plus the tipped uterus so I'm trying not to let it bother me but it's hard...

Mine is tipped back, and to the right side. Or, at least it wa s the last time I was in at about 6 weeks... it may have changed between now and then... I dont know. I have been using mine 2 times a day(once in the morning, once in the evening) since Saturday when I got the doppler from my sister. Saturday night I found the HB pretty well. Since then, I know I'm hearing it, but the baby moves before I can get a good reading. Then, it must move behind the placenta or artery because then I cant find it again. Last night I freaked out a bit because I couldnt find it at all. Though, I'm wondering if a setting got bumped or something??? I'm not sure how exactly it works since my sister didnt have the manual with it. I had my hubby put it in his car before he left this morning. I am going to have him keep it there till friday so I cant use it again before our OB appt. I'm sure the baby is just fine, but I really need to stop freaking myself out. I'm going to show it to my Dr. and see what she thinks.

It's REALLY easy to miss it at 8/9 weeks. I didn't hear a darn thing then. Think about how small they are (your siggy says a raspberry!) and then how small a heart has to be for a baby that size. It's a wonder anyone picks it up that early!
I don't have any uterus abnormalities. I did find the HB at 10 weeks higher than I expected it to be and off to one size. I'm pretty sure if this LO has been hanging around there for awhile that it's no wonder I never heard it - my pulse is strong there too and would have easily overpowered it! The manual my friend's doppler came with said this early to search from the belly button downward all the way to the pubic bone. That's quite an area to be looking in for something so small that MOVES. lol

I use mine about 1x a week it seems.. maybe like 10 min... I can find it really fast now and once I hear/see it beating I dont really let it go on TOO long.. I did it ummm last monday night..I like to do it right before the doc so then I wont be so scared going to the doc appt... so I'll prob do it this weekend or something... I usually do it in the morning on a day off when im home w/o kevin haha (he kind of thinks im nuts or obsessive so i dont really do it around him)... and he goes to bed before me so I dont want to turn lights on and stuff...I did it SOOO Much early on and couldnt find it and so I took a break until like 8-9 weeks... and now baby is just perfect positioned bcuz its so easy to find the doc even mentioned it was a very good baby haha (he's prob gonna be bad bad bad later on!)

I use mine every other day. I find it almost immediately and listen just long enough to get a count. Maybe a minute. I wish I had the willpower not to do it as much but after all my losses I'm kind paranoid.

My friend gave me some Acquasonic brand gel. It's pretty cheap, so I'll buy more if ever needed.

I thought of this thread as I was looking for the bean yesterday. Couldn't find it at all yesterday afternoon. Tried again last night with DH and we found it after a couple of minutes but it was really faint sounding and really low compared to last time. It was hard to get a reading on it because other noises were being picked up louder. I can see why it's sooo easy to miss it still. They're so small they can hide and because they're small they can be hidden by your pulse, stomach and gut noises, and more!
