Today's ultrasound

The main news (aside from the gender, which I'm going to save for the end of the post Wink ) was that I have marginal placenta previa. That means the placenta is just on the side of the cervix, and if it doesn't move up (which it usually does) it might mean pelvic rest and a c-section. I'm not super thrilled about that, but since I know there was a lady on pg.org a few years ago who lost two babies to placenta previa (I think it was previa?), I'm definitely not going to mess around with it.

Everything else looked great.

And now the news you all wanted to hear...

:lurk: congrats on the BOY! I think I know who you are thinking of, she lost her son Zane to placenta accreta, not placenta previa. Placenta previa is much less risky (but it's good you are taking precautions)

I was looking at her profile, actually, and I think it was vasa previa (which I think can sometimes happen along with placenta previa?).

But that aside, placenta previa usually means c-section if it doesn't go away. Hopefully it'll resolve on its own, though!

ETA, this is what uropachild says on her blog about vasa previa:

The risk factors for Vasa Praevia are:
• Those with painless bleeding (at any stage of pregnancy)
• Those with low-laying placenta or placenta praevia (even if it’s ‘moved’ because that’s what mine did)
• Those with bi-lobed or succenturiate-lobed placenta
• Those with velamentous insertion of the cord
• IVF pregnancies
• Multiple pregnancies
• History of previous uterine surgery, including D&C or c-section

I had bleeding early in pregnancy, placenta previa, and recent surgery. It's still probably a very remote possibility. But I was on the site when both of her babies died and remember how awful it was. So I'm definitely going to make sure my doctor checks into it!

Congrats on your baby BOY!! Sorry about the placenta previa, I really hope it moves up and you won't have to have a c-sec.

Yes, you are right! I know Sarah would be happy that you are taking her advice and educating yourself. It was a sad story. I think her second loss was not explained. So tragic.

Congrats on a baby boy! Sorry about the placenta previa. Sounds like you and your Dr are on top of it. My good friend had it in her last pregnancy like you have it and it did end up moving up for her. I hope the same happens for you!

Congrats on your little boy!!!

I've ran across quite a few ladies before with placenta previa. The majority really did go on to have no issues from it. The couple I remember still having it be an issue in the 3rd opted for a c/s and all was well. I was freaked out that I'd have this issue myself. We're very fortunate to be in this day and time to be able to know these issues early! My MIL apparently had a true emergency c/s with DH because they discovered during labor she had placenta previa. It was super scary for her. I never knew this until earlier this week in fact when talking to my FIL because he pointedly asked me about my placenta and if it was okay for a VBAC because of the scare with his wife and my DH. ((hugs)) KUP later in the pregnancy how this goes.

Congrats on the boy!! It is good that we can detect these issues before the birth these days! I hope it does move up though. I am trying to make a decision wheher I will try for a VBA2C.

Congrats on your sweet BOY! I'm hoping your placenta does move over the next months, but it is good that you and your doctor are monitoring it so you can make the right decision for both you and baby.

Congratulations! That is such wonderful news about a boy! Not so great about the previa but it sounds like your being proactive and your doctors are going to keep a closer eye on it.
