"Are you sure you're not having twins?"

I got this comment at the hospital from a cafeteria worker delivering food (I know they don't normally let you eat when you're in labor at the hospital, but this was complicated) to me when I was being induced with DS1.

I got this plus 'are you sure there isn't 5 in there?' Or 'is there a father around?' from strangers because I was young...

Nothing yet this time yet!

But I think we can all agree, don't ask if a woman is having multiples!!

That was the worst!!! I heard that A LOT while pregnant w/DS1. I was waiting tables and bartending back in those days but, wow I couldn't believe how some people felt they could say whatever they wanted to a perfect stranger. I was shocked how many people wanted to "touch it" too. I wasn't the first pregnant woman to wander the face of the planet so I don't know why I was treated like a science experiment gone wrong.

Yup- I got the twin comment too! I really hated that one. I also don't like it when people assume you are 9 months pregnant or overdue when you are really only like 6 or 7 months pregnant.

i heard the twins comment a lot when i was pregnant the first time around. the thing i don't get, how a mother, a woman who HAS BEEN PREGNANT and should know better, can say that. these two women at work, both moms, would ask me constantly if i was having twins and comment on how huge i was. it was so annoying. no one has said anything this time around. probably because i am a SAHM mom and only hang out with other new moms...who are either pregnant, trying to get pregnant, or recovering from pregnancy
.

I get these ALL THE TIME! It drives me crazy. People should just say, "That's wonderful. Congratulations." And move on. lol

Why don't people say these things to women pregnant with their first baby? They are going to have their hands full too. Have just one baby is a huge life change and is hard!

You're going to go through with it??? No matter what the outcome of the amnio is??

Um, whats that supposed to mean. I got the amnio so I could be better prepared no matter what the outcome, but I'm only 35. Its' not like I'm a 50 year old woman having a baby.

You're so much bigger this time around than last time at this point.

Should you be showing yet?

Its okay, its just baby fat.

Thank you! And the worst part is, they're all family too. I think its just cause the last pregnancy in our family was twins and everyone is kind of thinking of her pregnancy now and thinking well she should have been double sized cause of twins but whats this ones excuse? Its like they all forgot that the second pregnancy you get bigger earlier on. I won't be as big as my cousin by the end cause she was HUGELY pregnant with twins. She actually made it to week 39 before they scheduled her c-section. And the amnio comment was from my uncles wife who nobody likes very much... Gee I wonder why. She had her babies at 16 and 17.

Wow the amino comment....disgusting! Sorry you had to deal with that Erin!

I've started getting some now, from parents in my class. When I turned up to the school disco one said, 'I didn't think that you would be here, I thought you'd be at home with your feat up!' - argh, all the other teachers were there, why wouldn't I come?? I'm pregnant, not sick.

Um feet up??? We're in the second trimester, not the end of the third. No one here is on bedrest yet right???? No ones had premature labor yet... We're still too early and for heavens sake, I beleive this is the part of the pregnancy we're supposed to enjoy!

How horrible mandy! I agree you're pregnant that doesn't mean you need to be isolated from the rest of the world.

I got the are you sure you're not having twins comment alot when I was pregnant with DS, I was only 6-7 months pregnant too. I really hope I don't get those comments but honestly I haven't gotten any comments good of bad. Sad I still think I just look chunky and not pregnant and that makes me a little sad seeing as how in 2 weeks I'll be halfway done cooking this kid.

Angela, I think we need pictures to verify that you don't look chunky. ASAP.

:lurk:

I hope you don't mind me joining in, but I had a lady say, "It would be hilarious if you had to waddle up there after your kids." She was talking about the McDonald's play place. I'm not very big and certainly not waddling (yet!). Stupid people!

I would've made some comment about it would be even more hilarious if she had to chase after her kids at her weight.... No clue what she actually weighed being that I wasn't there but it sure would have made her a lot more self concious and maybe keep her comments to herself.
