I can't believe my little girl is 6! Kaitlyn had her birthday yesterday and had a really nice day, I think! She got a new bike and helmet in the morning so she could ride it to school--her bike was getting small for her and her helmet was completely trashed! She loves it!
At school she got to bring treats, and her classmates made her a birthday book. Each child colors a picture and fills in their friends name and their name in the "Happy Birthday _______ My wish for you is (picture box), Your friend________" And the cover is made by the previous birthday, so Kaitlyn will make the next child's. I got to be in the class for their literacy block, helping with testing on the Kindergarten sight words to make sure the class knows them or who needs to work on them, since they should all know them and be working on 1st grade words. Dh signed up a few weeks back to be a "Watch D.O.G.S" dad (dads of great students) where the dad spends the entire school day at school, with 30 or so minute blocks of time all over the school helping out--reading with kids, testing spelling, lunch, recess, etc and they make sure each dad spends some time in all of his kids' classes.
After school we took the kids to a corn maze and then had her choice of dinner (homemade mac n cheese) and cake and the rest of her presents. The rest of the stuff we got her was small--some leggings, hair clips, socks, and a Tangled dress up wig (which she wants to be for halloween). Joseph got her a little bubble tape message writer, and grandma had sent a gift as well--wooden magnetic "paper" doll from Melissa and Doug (love m&d!)
And tomorrow we are having a very small combined family "party" and just taking the kids to Chuck e cheese to play with a friend who's birthday was a few days ago too. And just having some cake there, nothing too big.
How was everyone's 6th birthdays? Or, if they are yet to come, what are your plans?
