Back at hospital- updated

Billi level went to 17. He had perfect coloring Monday and by today he's yellow. Sad
he's under the lights. I'm hurting pretty badly today from my stitches so it's pretty hard to move and even worse to be back here. My dh went to work today but when we were told kessler would be admitted he came right here and isn't going in tomorrow. Just trying to emotionally keep it together.

Update: the hospital just got new lights and blankets in. Kessler was the first baby to use them. My sister is a nicu nurse and thought we'd be there at least two days with levels at 17. He went in at 6:30 last night and about 7 this morning his levels went down to 10. We got the ok to go home but kept him under the lights until all the discharge stuff was complete. We left about 11:30. Way before 24 hrs. My sister was shocked that they dropped so fast. And ironically dh and I got the best sleep we've had in at least a week or so.
Now maybe I can finally get to those newborn pictures this week!

I had to be put under the lights when I was born and both my boys had high bili but we did sun exposure and it went down. The baby got up to 19 at 5 days old, but the next day after sunning it went down some, so we just kept sunning him.

Don't worry, he will be fine. If they catch it early then there is almost no chance of harm, and they make sure to catch it and treat it ASAP after birth. So the light will do its job and he will be fine very soon!

Just be easy on yourself and rest, and try not to worry too much.

Jaundice is very normal, many babies get it so hang in there! My youngest son looked very jaundiced as well as Markus and we had to do a lot of heel pricks the first week but we never ended up going under bili lights. Are you breastfeeding? It's more common in bf babies as your milk doesn't always come in right away (I have this problem). We did lots of sunning with Markus and I also gave him some formula supplement in the evening to help flush his system. The more poops they have the quicker you get the bili out of their blood. I hope he clears up soon I know how hard it is on the parents dealing with it!

I'm sorry he had to be readmitted Sad That has to be super stressful. Sorry you're so sore too. Hopefully you'll both be at home and able to relax soon.

Dont worry they will take care of him! I know it is the last thing you want to deal with right now but he will be ok! I hope your pain goes back down so you can attend to Kessler though!

I'm glad your ordeal is over! DD had the same thing happen. She got so jaundiced. Her highest level was 23!! Luckily, we were out in less than 24 hours as well. I just wanted you to know that I understand exactly what you went through. I'm thinking of you!

Thanks everyone! Once I got to the hopsital and DH got there I was totally fine. I was just running of lack of sleep (of course) and I am so glad that I made both my parents stay at the house with DD. I needed to make the 45 minute drive by myself to gather my thoughts and pull it together. I knew he would be fine, but it was just a long day. We were already down there for his 1st dr.'s appointment and had only been home 30 minutes before I got the phone call. I'm glad we did get home first b/c I'm sure my mom would have turned the car around and gone right back, but this way, I was able to pack for DH and myself and leave my parents at my house. It was a blessing in disguise. DH and I were able to really bond with the little guy and Kessler actually liked being under the lights.
You know me, I don't do anything without pics....

He's got a racoon face after being under the lights. It of course faded after a few hours, but I had to take a pic because you can see how yellow he was. Lighting of course isn't the greatest, but it gives the idea.

Glad to hear his levels dropped so quickly. My first had to go under the lights the day I was discharged so I had to leave without him...it was very hard on me. CJ had to go under the lights on our second day in the hospital and you'd think I would have been prepared but it was still hard. Thankfully he was able to come home with me and his levels have stayed down.
