    Default dilation checks

I have had 3. The first in L&D, felt nothing after. The second 2 weeks ago at the OB due to pain, cramps and spotting for 24 hours. Then yesterday with my doc, tons of bleeding, tissue, and the worst freaking cramps!!!

Its 3am and there so bad I can't sleep, and have to use a pad, liner wasn't enough. No contractions though.

Maybe I'll skip these from now on??

I had horrible contractions with DD last time. After one check, I contracted so bad that it still felt like someone had taken a baseball bat to my abdomen a week later. I wrote in down in my pg journal. Hope you feel better... you sound miserable.

For what it's worth, from everything I know & have read, the checks aren't a necessity. If you are responding like that, I would seriously consider skipping them.

I think that is why most providers simply avoid them until the end! I will likely have my first one next week, but at 38 weeks if it sends me into labor that's okay.

I'd skip them, too, if I had a reaction like that. My doctor doesn't start checking regularly til your actual due date. I had to request one yesterday!

I know its a normal side effect, but I was so crampy the day before, maybe that made it worse. The bleeding seems to have stopped, and as long as I'm sitting the cramps are fine.

The absolutely worst part of being up in the night was how hungry I was, LOL!! I'm going to east a big breakfast today

I was lucky enough not to have any of that after checks with DD. I haven't have my first one yet, but glad you're getting a little relief. Sounds miserable. No one wants to feel cramps and like they're in labor until they actually are! Maybe you can get a nice big breakfast this morning and a good nap this afternoon.

    'Lurking...
I don't think they mean anything. I've been checked both times with 4 days of delivering and had a high cervix/ no dilation/minimal effacement. Although I had lots of pain, DD1 was 2cm to 10 in less than four hours and DD2 was less than 90 minutes. Meanwhile, I've seen other women on the boards who've been 3cm or more for weeks.

Unless they are checking for a reason, I wouldn't bother.

I've been checked twice.....in L and D and then 2.5 weeks ago by my OB. I have never had any spotting/cramps after cervix checks. I will likely be checked today at my appt. (I'm actually requesting one). Not to mention since i have a history of getting to 6-8cm without feeling anything (with the twins I was complete and had felt NO contractions) I am sure he wants to be in the "know" so to speak, and know where we are..

I had one on Tuesday and it wasnt too bad but I think Im going to skip them from here on out bc I felt like I couldnt close my legs when I went to walk. The doc did poke around in there for quite some time bc my "babys head is big" lol and I was 1.5 dil.

They could have checked a little "rougher" to help things move along. I normally don't feel anything either but my doctor was a little rougher this morning than usual and I wondered if it's to get things moving along.
