Expired Car Seat

I just found out last night that our beloved Chicco KeyFit seat expires in December of this year so we are going to have to get another car seat. Sad I am so in love with this car seat that I cannot even think about throwing it away. Maybe dumb question, but are there any centers that take expired car seats or even recycle them? I would hate to just throw it away!

Nope. Toss it. DESTROY it and then toss it so that someone doesn't dumpster dive it. Sad

I found out that there are some drop-off centers you can take it to and they will recycle the material and plastic for you. I also forgot that Babies R Us has big trade in events every now and then on any old or expired baby stuff and you get 20% off on any new purchases. I'm pretty sure that I'm going to go that route. I'm so sentimental on stuff like that, I can't get myself to throw it away myself. Sad I know....I'm crazy! Haha!

definitely keep an eye out for BRU to do that event again. That is when I bought our seat. I went ahead and got a keyfit. I swore if I even had a baby I'd use a keyfit. I used to be a tech(let my certification lapse due to busy life) and I fell in love with the keyfit during my time helping others install and train.

I'd probably get another keyfit, they are just so awesome!

Hey, if you did get another keyfit you would probably use this cover on it, so then you'd always have a spare!

Usually 5-7 years depending on the manufacture. Mine is good for 6 years.

Some idiot at babies r us told my mom that my car seat should be fine as long as I was never in a wreck. He said the companies say they expire only because car specifications change over time. Really? He clearly has never seen the crash test video of the baby breaking through the straps of a 10 year old seat! I sure hope no parents take this moron's advice when it comes to their child's safety!

That's crazy, I would have asked to speak with his supervisor. Luckily you know better, someone else might not! Anyway, I hope you find a new seat you and Sophia will love!
