    Default Horrible heartburn

So my heartburn is back with a vengeance! What do you gals do for heartburn? The TUMS just arent cutting it anymore. I seriously feel like I could which I almost never do. Any ideas?

If your heartburn is that bad, I'd suggest calling your OB. Mine said if my heartburn got worse, he could recommend some OTC heartburn meds or prescribe something - all perfectly safe in pregnancy. You shouldn't be suffering the way you are.

I had horrible heartburn with Clara and she was born with a lot of hair... they say the worst the heartburn, the more hair they have! I have found little sips of diet coke get rid of heartburn, why I have no idea. Milk, water, juice make it worse! I would definately see what triggers it and what seems to make it better and if there's nothing see your OB. There are all kinds of things you can take that are safe such as Tums or Rolaids.

I was actually just wondering if there's a max amount of Tums we should be taking. I try to really just watch what I eat especially before bed - no big meals or sweets before bed - low carbs, no caffeine other than my morning coffee. I never made the eating connection with DS #1 and I had the WORST heartburn EVER - third time around I'm starting to figure it out, but it still sucks. I sleep with 3 pillows just to keep it down. Only a few more weeks of it!

then this baby is going to be born looking like chewbacca

After trying all the TUMS like substances and natural remedies, avoiding foods and adding foods and anything I could think of, my doctor finally OKd me to take Zantac75 OTC

Nothing seems to trigger it, it comes and goes at will and randomly, and the only thing that seems to make it any better that is "natural" is frozen yogurt... which I don't need to be eating all the time

I've only been on the Zantac a couple of days, but already I am feeling a difference. So you might want to ask your doctor about that, if nothing else works.

My heartburn was so bad that I was burping up bubbles of acid and accidentally inhaling them, it was miserable. I hope this stuff does actually fix it until term.

I never had heartburn with DS or outside of pregnancy.

I take 20mg of pepcid 2x a day and I have been feeling really good. If I do eat spicy food. I might have to take tums. I believe there is a max amount of tums since I remember something about it making vitamin less affective. I could be wrong though.

It is funny both my DD's were born with hair and I have never had heartburn in my life. So sorry not a lot of help. Just wanted to say the old wives tale was not true for me. Hope you find some relief though.

I'm sorry you are dealing with horrible heartburn. I don't have any advice though. Mine is more of an annoyance so I don't take anything for it. Mine seems to be more related to the lack of space rather than what I eat. Hope you find some relief. But I would probably call my OB to get some suggestions.

    I'm sorry about the heartburn!
I find that if I avoid certain things (like citrus juices, spicy foods or foods high in salt) that I can reduce my heartburn. With DS I was downing TUMS like crazy. Right now, I've been craving milk like mad so I think that's done away with most of my heartburn. Otherwise I take a couple tums and don't lay down for a while.
    Hope it gets better!!!!

With Robbie I had horrible heartburn and he was born bald... Anyway, at the hospital I was given Maalox Liquid and it helped. And for me, water was the worst I had so much heartburn from even a sip of water!
