I survived..

the first week!!! Can't believe how fast it went! Everything is going good! Loved waking up with him the first week just so I could stare at his beautiful face but now I am starting to get really tired from waking up at night. It's hard and sometimes I still wish I was pregnant, but I do love having him here now and still trying to make adjustments. Had alittle postpartum blues but they are starting to fade. Now that I feel better and bleeding has slowed, I feel more normal. I am now spending more time with DS and I don't feel as guilty for having this LO. I love getting to know Nicholas more each day and he is such a good baby. I had him weighed when he was 5 days old and he was 1 ounce bigger than when he was born. He is starting to get chubby cheeks and a chin! My breastmilk doesn't seem to be as much as the first time with DS, but I think it's enough to feed him. He doesn't have an appt with his doctor until friday, so I can't wait to see how much he weighs then!

Thought I would share some pics of Nicholas and get all you ladies anxious to make it through the last days of pregnancy so you can hold you LO's in your arms and be sleep deprived like me!

He is absolutely perfect! Just so you know, typically after the first baby your body will have a better idea of "how much milk" to make since you've done it before. SO... you likely have plenty of milk, but won't experience as much engorgement!! Smile I've actually experienced more milk supply with each of my subsequent babies, BUT much less initial engorgement. My body also had no problems adjusting after my 3rd dd was born and I was tandem nursing.

He is adorable and congrats on surviving your first week! Smile It really did go by so fast and I'm starting to get a little tired of waking up all the time too. Sophia wakes up twice during the night which is much better than every hour like she was doing the first few days. Last night though, she was up from 12:00AM-5:00AM. I think that was my fault though. I don't think she liked that chili cheese dog I had for dinner so that is now on my list of things to not eat.

Samantha - he is so precious & those are beautiful pics! Congrats for surviving the first week!

If I remember correctly, I think I had a mini meltdown around week 2 or 3. The lack of sleep finally kicked in & I just couldn't take it. After that one day, I was fine again.

That is good to know. Another note, DD got plenty of milk but never gained the "right" amount of weight according to the charts. She was & is super skinny according to the charts. She is almost 2 & might be 25 lbs if that. She didn't break 20 lbs until this summer. But she is perfectly healthy. I'm so glad my ped understood it was ok to not be perfect on a chart otherwise he may have tried to pressure me to supplement.

Congrats on making it through! I'd be staring at him all night too! He's beautiful and looks so sweet. So glad to hear that nursing is going well. Love all the other advice/info from Laurie too.

DS is doing great with the adjustment! He really doesn't care if I am holding or nursing the baby, he kinda does his own thing, and my SO plays with him alot, plus my parents are here to help. He is really independent and i think his age is pretty good for having another LO. Keep in mind every child is different, but I think spending alittle alone time with your first and acting like the baby coming into the home is no big deal helps. I know at first I felt so bad that I couldn't do as much with him and I started loving someone else, but after a week, it is now starting to get better and it take alot more work to care for 2, but that's just part of growing a family and I wouldn't have it any other way.
