I'm officially miserable!

I have been feeling like crap lately and the pressure on my bottom has reached a breaking point and I figured out why. For the first time in my life, I have hemorrhoids! Anybody know a quick natural remedy to get rid of them? I do not want to have them when I give birth!

No advice... never had them... hoping to never get them. I've heard they can be miserable... you poor thing... you've had waaayyy more than your fair share lately. I'm sure someone will have some great advice for you.

Get some Tucks pads. The witch hazel will help for sure. Plus you can use them after delivery.

My Auntie's a nurse & she always tells the new Mom's to push them back in if you can. I know that sounds gross but....worth a try???

Feel better.

Pretty miserable here too. Unfortunatly, the likelyhood of them going away before labor isn't very good. Tucks will become your friend and like pp said, try pushing them back in if they are just mild and it's possible, but don't kill yourself doing it. I had bad ones with Abby's pregnancy but (knock on wood) haven't had that problem this time. They were also pretty bad right after labor b/c of the pushing. Sorry to not have better news.

What everyone else said and make sure you're drinking a lot of water and eating high fiber foods.

What everyone else said, I find I get a lot of relief from Hemmoriod cream as well, usually one or two applications are enough. Hope you get some relief soon!

Thanks for all the advice. My doctor pretty much said the same thing you all have said. She also suggested swimming which I heard is good for preparing for labor also so I may just go swimming in the pool this weekend! Smile

So sorry! This doesn't sound fun at all! I would be completely miserable too! I have done everything to avoid these! I am so swollen down there that it hurts to wipe if it makes you feel any better?!?!? LOL

Ugh! I'm really swollen down there too! That's what I thought was causing all the pressure until I looked and then had a little freak out when I saw what it was. DH is having so much fun picking on me now. LOL!

There's something else that is really important that no one talks about - when you are on the toilet, make sure you have a stool with you to put up your feet so your knees are above your waist, and straiten your back. And don't push, just let it come out on it's own, even if it takes a long time (bring a book!).

And if it's really painful, flap your lips while your going, like blowing raspberries. It really loosens and opens everything up down there when you do that! I know it sounds insane. Ina May Gaskin talks about it a lot for labor, and she mentions that it will also help with hemorrhoids. I tried it and it really really works!!! (and it will work for staying loose and opening up during labor too!!)

witch hazel is the most effective astringent for hemorrhoids. something else to try if you're willing is to use a clove of garlic as a suppository. you can thread it if you want so you can pull it out, but you can also just leave it, it will come out the next time you go. garlic is also a potent astringent and it can work to effectively shrink the hemorrhoid.

also, when you are in labor, pushing in the lithotomy position (i.e. on your back with your feet in the air) will make them much much worse. try to let gravity do as much of your work as you can depending on where and how you are birthing.

I know how miserable this can be - trust me!! I had them so bad after DS1 was born that I couldn't go to the bathroom if there was anyone around b/c I would scream! but now I know what to do, and although they do tend to come back towards the end of my pregnancies, I know what to do to make sure they don't get bad, and I've been fine.

Feel better!!!

Wow! Great info! Definitely have not heard of any of that before. LOL! The garlic thing sounds too much for me, but I will try all the other stuff. I am so worried I will make them worse during delivery. Even though HypnoBirthing does not condone forced pushing, I feel like some will be inevitable. Crossing my fingers!

I hope you feel better soon! And I hope delivering Sophia doesn't make them worse!

I don't have any advice since (knock on wood) I've never had them, but sounds like Ayelet really covered everything!
