They are sending me to L&D again for sudden swelling in my hands and face. I checked my blood pressure and its 130/88 which is high for me.

Here's hoping she can make it till at least next Sat and be considered full term. Although the sudden swelling for sure sounds like Pre-E.

Good luck Jen thinking of you.

I'm home now. My blood pressure was 145/94 when I got to l&d so they had me leave a urine sample, hooked me to the monitors, and checked my blood pressure every 10 minutes. My BP started going down and when it was 100/70, they decided to send me home. This is the first time I have been disappointed in the hospital. I feel like they kind of dismissed my concerns and never gave me an explanation for the sudden swelling and high BP. They ended up not sending my urine to the lab and just did the little strip test instead. The on call doctor said that swelling is no longer a reason for preeclampsia. What about swelling that showed up overnight? Ugh! So now I just kind of feel like crap and really tired. I'm probably just going to sleep the rest of the day.

Nothing is worse than feeling like noone is listening... Definitely frustrating. I'm assuming the strip test didn't show any protein in your urine. ?? Stay on top of your symptoms. Hopefully the swelling is just a frustrating symptom of late pregnancy with no complications. I did read some good advice... Take a pre pg or pre swelling pic with you to the hospital/Dr for comparison. It is easier to see dramatic differences in pics rather than in person. *hugs*

I guess they didn't find anything. They didn't even tell me the results. When the sent my urine to the lab 3 weeks ago, they said that there was a trace of protein in my urine, but I guess not enough to be concerned about. I actually read the same thing about the picture. I have plenty in fb so I was all prepared to show them. LOL!

This is how I felt Friday night.....I was like thats high for me and she was like well its normal BP and I was like for ME IT IS HIGH....dismissed. Also she was like well you had a couple contrax but nothing "real" or whatever. I tried to explain my history with no pain with contrax even to the point of delivering my 1st 3 without pain or pain meds and she kinda juts dismissed me again. I'm having a serious discussion with my OB on Tues....

Jennifer call your doctor in the morning. Your doctor know you and L&D don't.

I went to L&D friday night because I too contract without pain and I was on hour 7 of extremely weird symptoms for me. The on call doctor was also very dismissive, he is very by the book and doesn't believe it is possible to contract and not feel it.

Everything was fine, but I really hate doctors like that.

You probably did have some swelling from the high blood pressure if it was 145/94. It could have been caused by a ton of different things. If you were super active, or had been in the heat, if the humidity had been extra high...those are the most common, but other things can do it too.
Pre-E/hypertension levels are 140/90 ... no matter what your "base" blood pressure is. Mine is "normally" almost unreadable it's so low, but I had pre-e in my first pregnancy. I had a blood pressure of exactly 140/90 EVERY time I went to the Dr. after 28ish weeks or so. They would do the strip test for me at my appts and I never had protein in my urine, so TECHNICALLY it's pregnancy induced hypertension without any protein. I had terrible swelling twice and my blood pressure never got above 150/100, which is when they told me I needed to come in to be immediately be seen. My doctors office had to have 3 separate readings of 140/90 to diagnose hypertension and you had to have SOME measurable protein with the strip test more than once to indicate pre-e. At my 39 week appt my BP went to 145/95 and I started showing protein. That was a Friday. On Monday they had me come back to be rechecked and it was the same, so they induced me.

It's good yours went down when they were monitoring you too. That's a good sign. The most accurate blood pressure readings are done after you've been at rest for 30 minutes or so.

I know it's SUPER scary, but I think your hospital/the doctor that saw you made the right call. Just monitor any weird feelings...headaches, spots in your vision, etc. if you feel weird you can always go to a drug store or grocery store that has a cuff and take your BP to know if you should be worried.

Also, the later in pregnancy you get, the higher your blood pressure can read. Within 10-20 points probably. I asked my doctor about it during my second pregnancy because I started to get concerned with my history. (It hit around 120/80 at the end for me)

I hope the rest made you feel better and that's the last time it will happen to you. Smile

Great info, Annmarie! Thanks! Smile I do have a cuff at home. That is how I knew my blood pressure was high. I'm not sure what happened yesterday and it was the first day that we actually had nice cool weather. Tropical Storm Lee brought a "cool front" to us so it wasn't hot or humid at all. I just woke up came downstairs and realized that I had some swelling and a really bad headache so I took my bp and realized it was high. The on call doctor called my doctor and told her that my bp went down and she said to just take it easy for the rest of the day and drink plenty of fluids. She is going to see how I'm doing at my appt on Wednesday.

I feel like I'm coming down with a stomach virus today though. Diarrhea, nausea, and stomach cramps. Ugh! One thing after another.

I'm feeling pretty good right now. I've had no more issues with swelling which is weird. It just went away as quickly as it showed up and my blood pressure is normal. There was a tropical storm really close to us and I'm wondering if that had anything to do with it. Yesterday I just felt like I was coming down with a stomach virus. My stomach was so queasy, but yet I couldn't stop eating! Last night, I literally had to peed 5 times within 10 minutes. The baby was really pressing on my bladder and it hurt like a SOB!!

Then last night and this morning I couldn't really sleep and I woke up 4 times for bathroom breaks. Then I woke up at 4:30 AM to really painful contractions. I thought for sure that "this was it" and we were headed to L&D for sure. I timed them and they were 4 1/2 minutes apart then all of a sudden they just stopped. I think she's just teasing me now.

With all the complaining though, I am absolutely thrilled that I have made it this far! I just can't believe that I will be full term in just 4 days!! Smile I just found out that a girl I work with who has the same due date as me ended up having her baby last week and her baby is still in the NICU. Sad I know exactly what she is going through right now and I feel so bad for her.

Having stomach issues and being this pregnant cannot be fun! Expecially ontop of contractions. I can't tell if I've had contractions or not.. I have a really high pain tolerance and I felt some pain last night but I was so tired I just rolled over and tried to go back to sleep.
Wern't you already dialated?

Yes, last they checked I was dilated 2 CM and 80% effaced. They are going to check me again tomorrow so I'm curious to see if there has been a change.
