Leg cramps :(

Ouch!!!! Last night was the second night this week I've woke up in tears with severe leg cramps in the calf of my left leg! It last about 2 min and through out the day I can still feel the residue... I've heard of this in pregnancies but never experience it with my other two. I hope they don't last long cause they are so very painful! Anyone else experiencing leg cramps?

Yes, I am! I had them with DD and have been getting them on occasion with this LO, too. I'm sorry you're going through it. The only thing I've found that helps is to stand up and try to stretch it out .. no matter how painful.

Thankfully I don't get that......my feet are killing me at the end of the day EVERY DAY though but I'm sure thats because I am on them 8 hours a day for work.

My doctor always said if you have leg cramps it's a calcium deficiency... are you drinking enough milk? I would drink a couple glasses before bed and tell us if it goes away!! Smile

I've been getting them to. One thing I find helps avoid them is stretching with your foot flexed (toes up towards your shin). Hope they stop for you soon!

I have gotten them in the past with my first couple pregnancies. Actually, I had not heard that calcium helps, but I know potassium does! So, definitely eat bananas, and watermelon is in season right now, and that has some potassium too. I didn't know about the calcium, but I'd say definitely load up on that too then.

Actually I've heard that potassium helps as well, I've also heard "banana a day keeps the leg cramps away". I already eat a banana everyday but sometimes I don't always drink enough milk. Bananas and milk are both loaded in potassium.

I've been having them, too. The only way I can keep them from coming on full strength is to stretch my toes toward my shins as soon as I feel my leg tightening up.

As an aside, I have really been craving milk, yogurt and ice cream lately. I wonder if there is something to the calcium deficiency and leg cramp connection.

I had horrible Charlie-horses with both my boys but luckily havent had them during this pg yet! But they are probably coming for me, aren they horrible?!?!? I would always wake DH up(cuz I was screaming in pain) and make him rub my calves as hard as he could. Sometimes having some extra potasium, like eating a banana will keep they away. I even had them during labor, now THAT was aweful!

LOL, Sally XD Yes!

And I'm sure the reason I have problems is that 1. I don't like bananas and 2. I'm lactose intolerant.. I don't get enough of either thing that prevents them! However, they've been far less this pregnancy than the last one. *knock on wood*

:lurk: have you heard of a pregnancy tea tonic? If you go to your local herbalist they should have it. It is supposed to be good for leg cramps and other pregnancy issues.

Just wanted to third or fourth the calcium & potassium suggestions. My doc put me on an extra calcium supplement last time. I don't drink milk either. Interestingly enough, I started craving milk and ice cream last time I was pg. Also, magnesium supplement can help too. I was told last time to take the calcium supplement before bed. Hope everyone's leg cramps resolve & I'm hoping not to get them this time. They really are awful.

I had them with both of my daughters. I used to eat a banana right before bed that helped a lot. I too would wake up DH with noise and my writhing in agony. Having him massage them helped more than stretching for me. Haven't had one yet this time but am sure they are in my future lol

I've had a couple of leg cramps as well and it's only when I'm sleeping. If I stretch my leg out and point my toes toward me, it goes away. Eating bananas does help keep them away though!
