Thread: Saw the Baby today and had Appt

We had another U/S as the baby has been measuring large and they like to check growth. Well it looks like I may be destine to have a large baby with a very large head. At 32 weeks my baby weighs almost 5 and 1/2 pounds. The head is measuring at about 36 weeks already. They say we are in the 92 percentile. I still blame my husband and his large head! My Doc thinks if I go term we are looking at a 10 pounder. The baby has measured large the whole time by about 3 weeks so I am not suprised.

I will have another U/S between 36 and 37 weeks. They will get sense of how big the baby is then and try and determine if a C/S maybe necessary ( I think more for the large head rather than the large body). I am open to whatever is safest for the baby and myself as long as there are drugs involved.

I also had an appt. I still haven't gained any weight and my BP was good. Overall another good appt.

LOL DS had a huge head too!! He was in the 90th plus percentile till he was a year old! It's cool you get so many u/s to see the baby though! I can't believe you haven't gained any weight! Ugh I'm up like 30lbs now!!

Would they consider inducing you early? My DS2 was 10.2 (and yep, had a big head too) so with this one my OB said that if he is measuring big that she would induce at 39 weeks. For most women a large baby isnt reason to do a C/S but they have to look at just how large the head is and compare that to your pelvis shape/size. The concern is that so many docs are C/S happy these days. Good that they are keeping an eye on it though! Keep in mind that the u/s is only accurate within 1 1/2 pounds of their actual weight. Head measurements are probably more right on. They thought DS2 would be big but only estimated 8 1/2 pounds so they were pretty far off!

They told me DS would be 7 1/2, he was 5lb 10oz and only 4days early!

Oh how exciting!!!! Well not the big head part ... they come out one way or another - like you said as long as they're healthy and you're happy with your drugs life is good

They keep telling me mine is gonna be a big one too. They also said that with my last they estimated about 10lbs and she was 8lb 8oz. So totally not worried about it

I'm glad your appt went well. DD had a large head & still does. I ended up with a Csect because her head got stuck in my crooked pelvis. I personally wouldn't try to have a large head baby au naturel... Epidural or something... But that's just me. If your Dr is ok with you laboring, I would give it a try. They can always switch to a Csect if necessary. I had 2 problems working against me... Large head & crooked pelvis. Never fear though... That baby will get out one way or another.

Congrats on a good appt! It's nice that your dr. is staying on top of things and keeping you well informed of the different options. Glad to hear you are doing well, even though I'm turning green in jealousy with your no weight gain
