Sick and breastfeeding , Help!

Sarah and I have caught a nasty stomach bug. TMI. It is vomiting and diahreah. I am still breastfeeding. What is safe for both of us to take? Thanks for the help!

Get a call into your dr ... mine cleared me to have gravol when I had the stomach bug while nursing Annabelle. :openarms: I hope you feel better soon!
eta: Keep a really close eye on Sarah as well ... it doesn't take much at this age to get dehydrated.

i had one when i was nursing my second (she was only 3 weeks old, it was horrible) and luckily the vomitting only lasted 24 hours. I stuck it out because I read a lot of anti nausea meds caused drowsiness in infants, and she was SO LITTLE then. But I would definitely call your doctor and hers, and possibly a LC. Smile I hope you're feeling better, i remember how terrible that was. They told me when Rowynn was vomitting every time we nursed to give her a small amount of pedialyte every 2 hours (I think it was like, 1oz at her age) and wait until she had been vomit free for 12 hours before nursing her again. I ended up having to hand express, because I was too sick to pump...anyway, it only took about 15 hours until she could go back to nursing, she didn't get dehydrated, and everything was back to mostly normal in about 3 days.

I hope you feel better soon! I had the same thing when Clara was about 1-2 months old. Just keep nursing and try to stay hydrated as best you can. Not sure what is "safe" as I can't remember but ask your doctor, I think the risks with gravol is just a drowsy infant but it's better that you both keep nursing and recover quick!

I hope you are both feeling better. I had a stomach bug when Caleb was 1 month, it was awful! I just toughed it out, luckily after about 24 hours I could keep water down again and my supply was fine. Thankfully Caleb didn't get sick (everyone else sure did!)

Thanks for all of your responses. I ended up just toughing it out. I didn't eat or drink much for about 24 hours, which seems to have been the best thing for Sarah and me. We kept nursing and since there wasn't much milk it was good for her poor little stomach. It stunk, but my husband was GREAT!
