Size guesstimate U/S

I had my U/S this morning to measure baby Caleb. He's measuring in the 90th percentile and has a big head  I have a lot of fluid in there so the measurements weren't all over 4 weeks ahead like how I measure with the measuring tape. I'm right at 37 weeks and his head is measuring 40.5 weeks and the rest of him measures about 39.5. His weight was estimated at 8 lbs 3 oz. I won't see my MW until next Tuesday but hopefully she's happy with him not being "too big". The tech didn't say much except that he looked "fluffy" for 37 weeks and wouldn't be surprised if he ended up 10 lbs at delivery. It made me laugh he called my baby "fluffy"! I honestly don't care what the measurements say either way. I trust my body won't grow a baby too big for me to deliver. That sounded crunchy huh? Haha! I just want the dr to be happy enough to let me be! I want to go on my own, I know intervention leads to intervention and I am desperately trying to avoid a C/S!

Sounds like you have a healthy boy growing in there. I'm with you, that without something like gd, your body is not going to grow a baby that is too big. Fingers crossed that the ob is content with the measurements and will allow you vbac.

We always say that Miss Alli is going to be "fluffy" as well Smile Thats why I LOVE my OB, even though I have consistently measured WEEKS ahead and she is measuring big he doesn't even want to bother with a US for size because in his words "since I have no underlying issues such as GD, the only way to see if my body can deliver a "fluffy" baby is to let me be and let me try"

Let me tell ya, a 10lb baby is no walk in the park, even if you body is made to fit it. I am anxious so I am considering induction at 39 weeks(breaking my water anyways) but a lot of it is fear of having another 10 pounder(DS2 was 10.2). I really dont mean to scare you but if my u/s said it was like to be 10+ I would be even more into the induction. I havent had an u/s since 26 weeks though so who knows. I just keep praying that I go early on my own.

Yeah........I'm with you on the induction thing...lol. While I am sure I won't have any issues even if little Miss IS 10 lbs......DS#4 was almost 9 and had a 14.5 in head and he WAS my VBAC baby delivered without any tears of any kind......I am still hoping My OB does in fact schedule my induction when I go in tomorrow am.

I know ya'll may all think I'm nuts but Cameron has a "by" this week so no football game on Sat so I am hoping for an induction on Friday am....

I have yet to hear an accurate measurement from a late U/S. I bet your LO isn't that big. Crossing my fingers for you that you get the delivery you want & your baby needs. Smile

Amanda ~ You are one dedicated football mamma! Wink It makes me smile though!

I wouldn't want to deliver too big of a baby, but I bet your body is making what you can handle Smile

I'm also praying about going early and on my own! I'd prefer to have him well before he hit 10 lbs! My hesitation about induction comes from DD's birth. My water sprung a leak but I didn't go into labor. So I went to the hospital and they started pitocin, since it's a VBAC, they are very conservative with the pit and can only put it up so far, they also need to have an internal monitor in, so I'm stuck flat on my back. After 22 hours I still hadn't progressed with the pit. It was 32 hours in all and I still ended up with a C/S because she went into distress. I know most women have no issue with induction and it works like a charm, that just wasn't my experience last time. So I worry about that since I'm committed to avoiding a C/S.

I'm not convinced that the ultrasounds are real accurate. I had one at the hospital and the tech said baby was going to be very big based on his current size and I had a lot of fluid. I had another ultrasound this week and the baby is measuring in the 57th percentile at 6lbs 12ozs. My doctor said they could be off by one pound.

All of my late US were off by a lot. DS1 I had an U/S a week before he was born and they said he was 7lb 11oz and he was born 6lb 80z. DS2 I had an U/S hours before he was born and they said he was 5lb 3oz and he was born 6lb 13oz. With Ds2 I had U/S every 2-3 days and they always told me the same weight right around 5 lbs. I don't know why they are so wrong but I would not put too much faith in what they told you. Just be aware that they could be off by a lot.

all of the US I had where they guessed weight were pretty close to what my kiddos actually weighed. With K and K I had an US about a week before they were born and they were estimated around 3.10 and 3.14......birth weight was 4 and 4.5. With DS#3 had an US 4 days before he was born they estimated 8 lbs he was 8.5. Then with DS#4 they estimated him at 8 1/2 at 41 weeks he was born at 42 weeks weighing 8.12.
