Spin off of todays qotd

What will you be packing in your hospital bag?

What will you be packing in the baby's hospital bag?

I am so worried I'll forget something important!

I am sooooo a minimalist. Especially having done this so many times. Wink

my bag:
I'll wear a pair of yoga pants, nursing tank, and either a tshirt or longsleeve shirt depending on the weather. Since I'll be in that outfit all of 20 minutes, that will be the same outfit I wear home.
I'll bring another nursing tank and another pair of yoga pants to wear when I can get up. Probably 2 or 3 pairs of underwear, and two pairs of slipper socks.
Brush, toothbrush, toothpaste, glasses, contacts.
then we'll bring our camera bag that will have our cameras, laptop, and our chargers including our phone chargers.

Babies bag: gown, coming home outfit, muslin blanket, warmer blanket, socks, a hat or two that I'll crochet, Wink I'll also probably bring some wipes because they had these weird generic tiny wipes when I had my last baby and they sucked. Oh, and a pacifier.

Those of you that have older children going to stay with someone else don't forget to pack bags for them too! Smile

*insurance card an ID
*a pillow
*boppy
*birth ball
*slippers
*baby book for footprints
* underwear ( I hate the ones they give you)

great point! Our hospital doesnt allow your husband/so/bf to stay overnight, so unless im having the baby during the night, he'll be home with the boys.

Also another good point, especially for FTMs. If your hospital DOES allow DH to stay, pack for him. With my first my DH didn't leave the hospital(didn't even leave the room) for way over 24 hours (probably more like 48 ). We packed him some extra shirts, some comfy pants, some extra socks, a blanket/pillow, and some snacks and drinks.

I went in for induction at 3pm on Monday and had a c-section around 2 the next day. Then of course he had to stay and help me take care of the baby. I don't think he left until around dinner time the next day. My parents were there and so was his mom, but I didn't want him to leave me alone at that point.

I'm pretty much a minimalist. The big things I don't want to forget are lotion for massaging out my hips during labour, the camera, and swaddling blankets for the lo. Anything else I can make dh go pick up after she's here.

I will bring...

robe
slippers
my pump
nursing tank/bras
underwear (which I might not wear because it hits right at the scar)
maybe a nightgown or 2
tooth brush/paste, shampoo/cond, hair brush, hair ties lotion
Pillow for DH
camera and chargers for phone/camera

For DS I didn't bring much, my hospital supplied me with so much!
going home outfit
a blanket
couple burp cloths

And also someone mentioned a giving DS a present from the new LO so I will bring that as well!

I was hoping we'd do this! Thanks for the good ideas!

For those BTDT moms - was there anything that you didn't have last time that you want to make sure you don't forget this time?

During my first when I labored I hadn't thought of chap stick or of eye drops (I wear contacts) Luckily my mom had both, because I needed them. Then with my second, I thought "I don't need to bring a pacifier, I'll only be in the hospital 2 days and the baby probably won't take one" (Plus I EBF) Yeah..I made DH go get one early one morning and he had to go to two different places because I'll only give them the soothie/gumdrop pacifiers. OH and I made my mom bring me a nail file so I could file the babies crazy sharp nails. I did have one for the second baby though.

Otherwise, there was honestly a lot of stuff I didn't need ...
burp cloths, extra clothes for both of us including underwear for me (we both wore what the hospital had the first day, the second day we changed.), my boppy pillow (I did have it in the car for #2 in case I changed my mind)

I'll be staying 2-3 nights in the hospital. My dd spat up a lot and went through probably five sleepers a day. If you don't want to use the hospitals ugly sleepers then be prepared! I've also heard many women say that chapsrick iscessential but not for me. A list of phone numbers to tell people the happy news is important. I also brought about 8 pairs of undies because I bled do much and there were always leaks even with the jumbo pads. My hospital doesn't supply undies. If you have preferences for body wash or lotion for yourself or lo don't forget to pack it too! Also a robe because those gowns don't always stay as closed as you'd wish!

Only thing I will pack for LO is coming home outfit and a blanket, The Hosptial supplies everything else and the sleepers they have arent bad at all and I'd rather not have much laundry from LO to wash when I get home. For myself again a change of clothes, the camera, and an extra pillow, again the hosptial supplies everything I might need and I really dont like to have lots of stuff to cart around. Our hosptial is really good when it comes to babies and mom's.

I overpacked last time. Plus our hospital supplies us with so much. It was even included for DH to order his meals with mine. He didn't leave the hospital last time. I'm going to post my list in another post.

Also, FTMs... you can google hospital list & see lots of options. Then you can pick & choose what is necessary for you. I packed a few things that never left the car... but they were close by if we needed them.

I'm a repeat C-sect & here's my list...

For LO:
Car seat
Coming home outfit
Hospital pic outfit (our hospital sends a photographer for some basic newborn shots)
2 gowns (hand me downs... because my hospital threw away DD's first gown last time :bigangry:)
Soft hat
1 or 2 onsies (hand me downs)
Boppy... this was a must have!
Socks
Nursing cover... *didn't bring this last time... last time I just used the baby's blanket
Pacifier... *didn't bring this last time but I'm thinking I may have it just in case
Gift for DD from her new baby brother

Hospital provides for the LO:
diapers, wipes, etc
Tshirts
blankets
hat

For me:
A small box of snacks
Netbook w/ charger
Camera w/ charger
Phone w/ charger
Book
Ins card & ID
Birth plan

Toiletries including lip balm & breath mints
Some makeup
Glasses & contacts plus solutions, etc
Head band &/or bobby pins
Hair dryer & hair straightner

2 yoga pants (will wear one pair there)
2 Shirts (will wear one there)
Socks
Shoes (will wear there)
Flip flops for walking around
Nursing bra/tanks
1-2 undies
Nursing PJs/gown
Nursing pads
Lanolin
Button up sweater/shirt to wear over nursing tank
Jacket (depending on the weather)

Reusable tote to bring home any gifts

Hospital provides:
Undies (I loved these... they weren't really mesh but they served their purpose)
Pads
Breast pump

Other:
If DH stays, then he will need a bag too.

I will need to have DD's bag packed for 3 days. Even if DH stays with her at night, I will need to have everything that he will need laid out. He, for some reason, can't remember where anything is... ever. :banghead:

I will also have a small bag of toys/books packed for DD to use at the hospital when she comes to visit. I'm thinking I will also have a beach towel packed so she can play on the hospital room floor & not worry about dirt/trash/germs.

I'm doing this for the 5th time and I've never packed a bag....... I usually just wore the same clothes home as I wore to the hospital (except with the twins but I was in the hospital on bed rest for 10 days before they were born). I always just sent the EX home to get my tolietries and what not.

All he usually brought me was my toiletries, one pr of undies to wear home ( I wear the hospital undies and gigantic pads while Im there), and going home outfit/blankets for baby.
My kiddos have been born at 3 different hospitals and they have always provided diapers, wipes, t-shirt for while baby is there and blankets, paci and you better believe I'm using what they provide while there.

With the last 2 I was packed wayyy early this time but now I am lagging. I guess I had better get on it.
I agree with pp that hospital provides most of what you need. You just need to worry about stuff like contacts and toothbrush that you might want special. It is like a hotel that if you forget some basic thing they usually have it.
For me I have to worry about bringing my hypnobirthing CD since that is essential. dont forget some soothing music to help relax you(or get you excited if that is what you need), most hospitals have sound systems in the room.
Maybe give your list of names and phone numbers to someone else like a family member. That way you (or you SO) only have one person to call to inform of your progress and they can pass it along to everyone else.
Make sure you have your carseat properly installed ahead of time so you dont have to fool with it just before driving home.
I live an hour and a half away from the hospital where I will deliver so I guess I should get packing. As soon as my water breaks or real labor begins I will jump in the car and head to hospital!
ps, I loved the hospital undies since they were disposable! I took all of them from the room when I left.

I am a really light packer. And still I found I didn't use much of what I brought. For myself and DH, I will bring toothbrushes/toothpaste, deodorant, and one set of clothes for each of us to change into. DH never uses the extra set of clothes . For baby I bring a sleeper or two to wear at the hospital, a coming home outfit, and a couple receiving blankets. They provide everything at our hospital. They even provide the clothes/blankets for baby but I get too excited to dress my LO in the clothes I bought :). Then, of course, I bring the camera and the carseat.
