Will this bad luck ever end???

I was extremely exhausted last night so I ended up falling asleep about 8:30 and woke up shortly before midnight with severe abdominal cramps. I ended up going to the bathroom and had diarrhea (TMI) and nausea. The cramps would come and go like every 15 seconds and they started getting so unbearable that I actually thought maybe I was in labor. This lasted about an hour and I finally was able to get back to sleep. I have no clue what caused it, but it was scary while it lasted and was so close to calling my doctor. Shortly after I fell back to sleep, we got a call from the vet telling us that our dog is having respiratory problems and to stay by the phone because she may not make it through the night. Then we lost electricity for some unknown reason! Why are we having all this bad luck??? I swear when it rains, it pours!

I just talked to DH and found out that our dog in now in Intensive Care on oxygen and she is now pooping blood so DH and I have to make a decision by 2:00 today on whether we want her to keep going or put her to sleep. Gosh, I hate this and it sucks so much that I'm at work right now. Sad

Jennifer, sounds like you maybe had some food poisoning? What did you eat/drink yesterday within 12 hours before? Diarrhea will cause contractions just like I had contractions from the kidney infection. Everything is kinda connected down there so one will trigger the other. I am very happy to hear it settled down and I am so sorry to hear about your dog Sad

I had some spicy chicken pasta dish at a little Asian Bistro for lunch and I cooked Spaghetti for dinner and I drank nothing but water yesterday. DH said that he woke up feeling a little nauseous this morning so it must be the spaghetti I cooked. Ugh! I'm just glad it's gone now so I can deal with all the other stress going on right now.

DH and I had a long talk earlier and we have made the decision to put our dog to sleep. We've already paid $3000 in treatment so far and the vet said that it will cost another $3,000-$4,000 for additional care and there is a very small percentage that she will make it. Even if she does make it her quality of life will not be the same. She will have to be confined to a crate and receive inensive care for the rest of her life. I'm leaving work early today so we can say our goodbyes. Sad

I am sorry to hear that you have to say goodbye but it certainly sounds like the most humane thing to do. The problem with pets is that they simply dont live long enough. We had to say goodbye to our 13 yrold last last year and my other lab is going downhill fast. I almost dont want to get another dog just because it is so darn painful! Keep your chin up hun!

I'm so sorry about your poor doggie. It's always miserable saying goodbye to a "family" member. Hope you feel better too! And, hope your luck changes!

We vistited Bailey a couple of hours ago and she has improved a little so we decided to give her another 24 hours and see how she does. If she keeps improving then they can take her off the iv fluids and oxygen and she can come home. She still can't walk, but they said it will take time. I'm starting to have some hope that she may pull through. All the staff was commenting how much she has improved in the last several hours so I hope this is finally the good news we have been looking for!
