12 Week Scan

Is everyone pretty much getting a 12 ultrasound? It seems like a lot of you ladies are having 12 wk scans done for dating and such. I had one done at my 8 week appt but I don't remember having one done with DD at 12 weeks. I think they just check the hb on the little doppler machine. Man I want a 12 week scan to see my peanut! Smile

My appt isn't until next week Tuesday either and i'm not so sure I can hold off that long, its seems like its been forever since my last appt.

We aren't, the 12 week scan is usually an NT scan and we turn those down. I had a viability one at 7 weeks because of my m/c last time, but thats it for us until the big scan sometime next month.

I have my 12 week OB appointment today and then a genetic screen ultrasound tomorrow with the neonatologist tomorrow. I.can't.wait! With that said, I didn't have the 12 ultrasound with my last pregnancy.

I had the NT scan at 12 weeks and I'll continue to go on a regular basis now to keep my thyroid levels and baby in check.

Nope. We don't do the NT scan. I did have one at 11 weeks because of the SCH. The next one will be the big one.

Nope, we always pass on the NT scan. I had one at 10 weeks just because my doc knows my fears because of my previous losses. She just did a quick one so I could see the heartbeat again Smile

I'm not getting the 12 week scan this time around. My next one will be the anatomy one and that's probably all I'll have. I did have one at 5 and 6.5 weeks just to make sure it wasn't another ectopic and then to see a heartbeat.

Nope I never got a 12 week scan with DS- and nobody really asked/offered for NT tests or anything, so I assume I wont get one with this LO either

It's the nuchal fold test. It's done between 11 and 14 weeks. They do an u/s and look at the back of the baby's neck to check for extra fluid which can be a sign of Down's or chromosomal abnormalities. We've always passed because there tends to be a high false positive rate. I personally know 4 women who all had false positives. It's just a personal choice.

I had an NT done with my 1st. I have OI, which is genetic... there is always a 50/50 chance that they will have it. My reg. OB hadnt ever had a patient with it. She wanted me to have an amnio, and I didnt want to, so I said yes to the NT. Like Belinda said its not definitive. We still had to do extra ultrasounds at the end to watch for fractures, and growth. So, with the other 2 we opted not to do the NT, seeing as we would still have to do the extras at the end any way. I'm thinking that thats what we will do again this time.

What is the nuchal translucency screening test?[/h]This prenatal test (also called the NT or nuchal fold scan) can help your healthcare practitioner assess your baby's risk of having Down syndrome (DS) and some other chromosomal abnormalities as well as major congenital heart problems.

The NT test is not invasive. It uses ultrasound to measure the clear (translucent) space in the tissue at the back of your developing baby's neck. Babies with abnormalities tend to accumulate more fluid at the back of their neck during the first trimester, causing this clear space to be larger than average.

They dont do NT scans here I would have to go to the UofI. They wont send you there unless you have several risk factors though so I dont get it. They just do b/w. I got an u/s at my first visit which turned out to be pretty early, then another at 9 wks for spotting. If I am still spotting then I will get another at 15 wks as the placenta should be big enough then to look at in depth.
