Yes! For me it's my lower back and my tailbone. I made the mistake of using the recumbent bike and it hurt to sit for days afterwards. It doesn't bother me when I'm not pregnant. I might have to see a chiro this pregnancy!
:lurk:
I have a lot of back issues in general, and being prego just aggravates it. I really recommend seeing a chiropractor. With DD I had terrible sciatic pain, and seeing my chiropractor really helped :)
Most people don't know this, but many back pains are transferred pain from abdominal muscles, which explains why pregnancy causes back pain, even when your belly is not big enough to strain your back. There are a lot of exercises and stretches that can help. For instance, if you have pain in a straight line across your lower ribs, that's a muscle that runs up your abdomen called the psoas muscle. I had this pain for a long time every day before I joined a stretching class that focuses on muscle pain. The exercises for that particular pain include a cobra stretch (with your belly on the floor, raise your head and shoulders as far as you can off the ground), the "pregnant lady stretch" (standing up, put your hands on your hip and arch your back as far backwards as you can), and "sit downs" (the opposite of sit-ups, where you start from sitting up and slowly lower your shoulders and head to the ground). Massaging the abdominal muscle just under the lower ribs can help tremendously too.
Oh yes, I find bending over at work isn't very comfortable and sleeping at night just plain sucks. The other night I had some sharp pains felt like right below my last rib, it was so painful i had no idea what that way. My back does hurt a lot though
Mines the tailbone.. barely cld sit through a movie the other night..and i was like "already?!"
Back pain is one of my first symptoms. Shoulder pain too. I can never get comfy while pg. Something always aches. I agree a chiropractor will help I just have to find time to go. Deb that is cool that you know all those exercises. I will have to try them.
I have a couple for hip/sciatic pain too. I have had to do them myself because I have been having pain and tightness in my hips and butt. The one I like is to cross your ankle over the opposite knee, then grasp your knee in one hand and your ankle in the other, keeping your lower leg in that 45 degree position, and draw it toward your chest. You can do this one sitting in a chair or lying down. (I suppose you could do it standing if you had good enough balance.) I find this one helps me to get a quick stretch when I've been spending way too much time sitting in a chair or driving a car.
My back is KILLING me. I thought it was just from carrying around the giant almost one year old, but now I'm thinking it has to be pregnancy related. I think I'm going to try some of the stretches that Deb shared. Tfs :)
Another one that will help a little but is also great for strengthening the pelvis (which those of us who've had other kids could definitely use) is Angry Cat/Old Horse. They are yoga positions, so you can look up pictures online if you're not familiar with it.
