Caffeine question?

With my dd I totally gave up Caffeine I drank way tooo much than. With my Ds I had it once in awhile. The time I am totally craving pepsi( I have never enjoyed Pepsi before either) I try to limit myself to 1 cans a day sometimes 2 . But when I feel sick it totally makes me feel better, I swear I am crazy lol! Anyways there is 38mg caffeine so at the most I am 76 mg a day is that ok? You would think by now I would know this stuff but I still get paranoid.

I am totally the same! I cut out all caffeine except 1 Pepsi a day and on weekends I allow myself 2 cans. My doctor told me this is totally fine! He told me that most doctors recommend you stay under 200 mg a day. Which seems like A LOT to me. I don't even drink that much caffeine when not pregnant. So I say 2 cans is just fine! :):)

:lurk:

I totally gave up caffeine during the first 12 or so weeks of my pregnancy; however, at my 12 week appointment, the doctor said it's totally fine up to ~200mg per day - I added it back! I do try to keep myself limited to 1-2 cups per day, though!

You are well below the limit. A small cup of coffee has roughly 100 mg of caffeine, and most doctors will say to cut down to 2 of those a day, sodas have almost a third that amount so having a can or two is really not an issue at all. When I was pg with my other 2 I would limit myself to 1 can of caffeinated pop a day, my doctor never had any issue with that, and now I'm down to usually 1 every other day.

I had read that it's 300mg of caffeine a day. I'm totally craving coke this time around (and it's helping my tummy troubles more than ginger ale), but I've been limiting myself to 1-2 glasses a day.

Also, do they make caffeine free Pepsi? I know they make caffeine free coke (which totally tastes the same), so that may be an option.

I drank coke all day throught my pregnancy with DD. She turned out just perfect and was such a calm baby. I had no caffeine whatsoever while pregnant with DS. He was a very high maintenance baby and a crazy toddler.

DH did his own study and swears that everyone who drank large amounts of caffeine while pregnant have calm good babies. Those who don't drink caffeine have needy babies. LOL so now he wants me to drink caffeine again during this pregnancy, he's so crazy sometimes LOL.

My MIL, SIL, cousin and Aunt all drank coffee and soda during their pregnancies and all had healthy babies.

Yes I was told 200mg as well. I usually have 2 cans of pop a day usually diet dr pepper. I don't drink coffee or tea and don't eat much chocolate so I don't get any other caffeine during the day. I think you're fine!

I don't think the concern is the health of the baby. There is a higher risk of early m/c with caffeine intake (like 2 or 3 cups of coffee, I don't remember exactly), and caffeine also inhibits the absorption of vitamins and calcium, so if you are not able to eat a healthy diet, that can be a problem. I don't think there's any correlation between caffeine and disposition of the child. I consumed very minimal caffeien with my 3 DIY kids, and all three of them are very low maintenance.

That said, there's nothing wrong with a moderate amount of caffeine consumption, particularly once your pg is established, you have h/b, etc.

I limit myself to one soda a day, but have the occasional glass of iced tea (which is sometimes decaf and sometimes not). I'm addicted to caffeine so I can't stop completely or I feel really sick if I don't have one a day.

Like the pp I have been told some is ok. When I was pg with ds my dr. told me one can of Mt. Dew a day was ok. This time I've been craving pepsi and coke as well. I had a coke the other day and it was like heaven. LOL!

With my DD I had very limited caffeine my DH was a stickler on no pop or coffee at all. By the end of my pregnancy I was having a glass of pop probably once or twice a week. This time though I feel very much more relaxed, I've had a few cokes here and there. When I found out I was pregnant i stopped drinking coffee but at work now i've started to have a cup of coffee in the morning. I truly feel like without out it I can't get through the day but by just having a cup I'm getting so much more done. DH doesn't know of course and some of my co-workers have threatened to rat me out to him Smile He doesn't want me to have any pop or caffeine at all. If we are out to eat he insists I have sprite or sierra mist. silly man just doesn't get it

Maybe you should share some of the literature on caffeine and pregnancy with him (http://www.marchofdimes.com/pregnancy/nutrition_caffeine.html). What's he worried about? Just the thought of my DH trying to control my caffeine intake makes my blood boil. Enjoy your coffee! As long as you drink a modest amount, then you're just fine.
