Doppler question!

I got my doppler in the mail- however it didnt really have instructions so..just had a few questions for those who have them...

If there wasn't a HB or if it was too soon to find it- would a number come up?

What does it sound like? a swish swish swish sound?

Can you definately tell it's not your own HB?

Can you only find it on one side, both, or does it move??

So, I didnt think I'd hear anything because i thought it said 8-10 weeks so I hadnt even gotten it out of the box, but Kevin found it hidden (oops) so I thought what the heck I'll try it out..

I thought I found it, It was like 126ish, had the little heart flashing, and was like swish swish swish sounds.
Kevin thought it was my own heart soI put it on my heart and my heart was loud- like THUD THUD and it was 89.
I thought you could only find it on one side, but it seemed like it worked on both sides? so it made me wonder if it wasnt the HB??

Any tips?

Here's mine to listen to what it sounds like. It is kind of like a galloping horse much faster than yours. The doppler will pick your hb up too though thru your uterus and other organs. The babys heartrate is usually on the higher end this early on like around the 140s to 160s but it can vary from 120s to 170s. Sometimes I think my doppler averages my hb and the baby's sometimes I get 110s, 120s etc which I dont think is either of our hb's. The spot where you pick up the baby is usually pretty precise right now since it is so small but sometimes you can get it in a few different places. Just move the wand VERY slowly it is easy to skim right over the baby since it is so tiny. I would start right at the midline of your pubic bone angling the wand down. Sometimes a full bladder helps as it pushes up your uterus, sometimes an empty one that seems to be better for me this time. It isnt super easy to find the hb so early on it gets easier as you get closer to 10-12 weeks. Most drs offices dont try until 9 weeks or even later. GL!

I just got my new one on Saturday. Smile I had one with my last pg, but sold it.
Tiffany gave great info, I 2nd all of that! I can find my own heartbeat in many places on my tummy. If I'm not sure which it is at first, I'll check my pulse on my neck while listening to it. I've also noticed that when I find baby's, I can hear it, but it's not always making the little heart on the screen flicker, or it's not flickering as fast as the sound. I wonder now if it is averaging our hb's? Strange. I think after you've for sure heard it once, it gets a lot easier to find. That sound is unforgettable!!

I think on your doppler theres an option to make it average or not- mine you can average it or leave it orrrr one other thing.
Maybe I'll go try again! I didnt think an adult heart beat would go that fast haha.. Then I went and watched baby story and listen to the HB on the show to compare.. Im blonde!!

SO... if the heart is flickering and theres a number- that means it might NOT be the heartbeat? I guess that's what Im confused on.

I've been using mine on the "live" option, but I still think it's doing some weird averaging things sometimes, lol. And, yes, it might not be the hb even though it flickers. It'll show numbers for me even if I'm just moving the thing around.

Mine shows numbers even when I can't hear my heartrate or baby's. I just listen for the gallop. I tried this morning and I could only find my own on both sides and it started saying 124, but then gradually the number went down, even though I had it in the "live" mode. I knew it was me and not baby because it didn't sound like a gallop. It'll take a while before baby is easier to find. I can't wait!

Yes it will register a number and flicker even if it's not the baby's if it hears a hb it will register. And yes even when it's in live mode I think it can pick up both mine n beans hb evenly and it averages them. And I second what Andrea said if it goes down its not the baby it's you, if it goes up then it's probably the baby. Like said above once you hear it you'll know more what to listen for. I've done this many, many times so I'm an old hat now and I still can't easily find the hb yet. It takes lots of patience this early!
