Dopplers!!

I just ordered myself a Doppler off of eBay! Is anyone else going to get one? I rented them w/ my 4th and 5th babies and bought one w/ my last baby. I sold it though thinking we weren't sure when or even if we were gonna have another. I will feel so much better when I hear the baby's hb on the Doppler the risk for m/c plummets after that. With Ariana I got her hb at 8 wks I had had some spotting that day and the Doppler was a godsend!! I won't be able to use it right away but I will feel better just having it on hand. I got the same one I had last time a sonoline b with LCD display in orange and there are 3 modes to listen to the fhr.

I totally want to buy a doppler. I think I was looking at buying the same one that you got. But some of my friends told me it was a bad idea because it would freak me out even more if I couldn't find the heartbeat. Now I have put off buying one long enough and my appointment is on Wednesday. I wish Iowa was closer to Michigan because I would stop by and borrow yours. Wink

My DH wouldn't let me get one with my first pregnancy because he thought it would freak me out too much. I insisted with my second pregnancy and it was awesome. Not once did it freak me out. All it did was give me a ton of comfort. In fact, I had a friend that was worried come by and use it so it comforted her too. After my pregnancy was past the worrying about heartbeat point (so lots of kicks), I sent the doppler to another friend in early pregnancy so she could listen. She kept it until kicks, then sent it to another friend. That friend sent it back to me and I'm looking forward to using it in a couple of weeks. They're a great investment because you can either loan it out or sell it once you're done. I got really good at finding the heartbeat too and limited myself to using it every other day for one session.

Michelle I paid $58 for mine it's a medical grade FDA approved one by sonoline. That is about what I paid for the last one I got too. And I sold that one for about $55 I think after I had her. It's a steal really compared to paying monthly to rent one! I have never had a Doppler cause me worry it's always the opposite. I have gotten quite good at finding the hb over the years (full bladder helps) and even if I couldn't find it at one time I was usually able to go back a few hours later and find it. I have an anxiety disorder and the Doppler really helps me Smile

I got my doppler in the mail today (the sonoline one Tiffany mentioned), and holy addictive batman!
I wasn't expecting to hear anything at all for a couple more weeks, but I found a strong heartbeat pretty quickly.

It actually made me feel a lot better because just the few times I've used it so far there has been a pretty wide bpm range (130 - 160ish) depending on how close I get the doppler to the lil bean, whether I've recently been active or inactive, etc. At my doctor's appointments they check the bpm and at a couple of appointments the doctor (and therefore ME) was concerned with how low the bpm were.
My doc usually only tracks the hb for 5 or so seconds, so the home doppler has made me realize that those worrisome times it probably just happened to be on the lower end of the range and it's nothing to worry about after all. *phew!*

Anyway, I made a short little video using the doppler, but in order to upload it here, I'd have to upload it to YouTube, and I don't want to tip off any family or friends yet! (yeah, I realize there are privacy settings, but I don't know if I trust YouTube *THAT* much lol)

That's awesome Andrea! Cant wait to hear my babes! I might try this weekend. As for posting the video you can do it on photobucket if you want just like with pictures and post it here. Its totally private if you want it to be, my account is so no one gets tipped off here either.

How exciting that you found it so early, Andrea. I'll probably try to find it next week. Did you find it really low, like right above the pubic bone? If I remember right, that's where I found it early on last time (but I don't think it was until 9 weeks or so). I'm glad it's given you comfort.

Yup! Right above the pubic bone, and a little to the right (I knew I ovulated on the right so I started there, figuring that side may have been where he/she "landed").

I have the same one I think only in orange! I had it last baby too and heard it with her at 8 wks on the dot right above the pubic bone angled down a bit. A full bladder helps as well. I got mine yesterday in the mail and already tried today lol! I knew it was too early I am not even 8 wks yet and they say that is the earliest you hear it and its normal not to hear it even then yet. But I couldnt resist I had to try! I of course didnt hear much more than my own hb but I did hear the blood pumping to my uterus and possibly the placenta it makes a wind whistling sound if you guys havent heard it before. Its pretty neat. I cant wait to hear the hb I will feel tons better!

Cait I am sure it comes with instructions mine did. It is pretty simple though just put on the gel and point the wand towards your uterus!

When you run out of gel (which any crazed pregnant woman will do with a doppler), then you can just get some generic ky jelly to use for the gel. It works just as well. Mine came with instructions because there were a couple of different settings, but I liked the one that gave the heartrate instead of the average heartrate since it was hard to stay on baby all the time. It's definitely fun to listen to the whistling of the placenta and everything. You'll get better at using it with time too. I could tell immediately if I was hearing my own heartbeat (which is way slower) or the baby after some practice.

I can't wait until next week when I might have a chance to hear something!

I rented one with DS4 and LOVED it! It was so reassuring. Heard him right at 9 weeks. My friend' hubby is a doc and she gave me the one he brought home for her with my last pregnancy. I still have that one and I know I'll use it a lot Smile Prob start trying at 9 weeks. They are worth every penny!!
