Glucose - GD

Ugh, I failed my glucose test. My Dr. had me skip the 1 hour and just do a 2 hour where I fasted for 12 hours. My ial draw, before drinking the sugar drink came back 96 and needed to be under 94 to pass. So....even though it's just a couple points they are diagnosing me with gestational diabetes.

I'm annoyed but obviously will do whatever I need to do to keep it within normal range for myself and th e baby. I have to go to class twice (once a week for two weeks) where they give me a meter, get test strips and test my blood sugar regularly. I'm guessing with it being so close I'll have no problem managing it with diet.

If it's the worst thing I have to deal with then it's not that big of a deal - just a bit of a hassle. :/

Ugh how annoying, that really stinks. Your right though in the big scheme of things an altered diet isn't that big of a deal just more of a hassle.

I've got a feeling mine (on monday) isn't going to turn out so great either.

It stinks ...sorry. Sad Even though I don't have GD I have to watch my sugar intake because of extra fluid. So I am trying to make diet changes also.

Ugh that is no good at all!! Sorry you have to go through the rest of your pregnancy watching your blood sugar! That is tough! I hope that you can control it really easily and you have no probs!!

Aw, I am sorry you had this curve ball thrown at you during your pregnancy! What a good outlook to have when it comes to it, though

Had my first class today and got my meter. Both my readings today were well within range so I think I'll have no trouble keeping my sugar controlled - thankfully!

I learned a lot and found out I can actually enjoy more foods than I thought I would be able to. I'll definitely be ready for it to be over with in 10 weeks and indulge in some delicious food BUT....I can manage and I told DH it's a good motivator for me to get healthier once this pregnancy is over so I decrease my chances of having to deal with diabetes later in life.

This exactly how I felt when I had GD with DS3. I was surprised at all the food options I had. I remember not being able to have a big chocolate chip muffin in the hospital after delivery though! I'm watching my sugars this time just b/c I've had it in the past and I tend to have big babies. The diet is really healthy so I might as well try and follow it just in case! I hope it continues to go well for you!

I am glad everything went well at your class! Just think, you have already made it past the middle point. Your beautiful LO will be here shortly!

Well this isn't going as well as it seemed it would. I have to start insulin since diet wasn't bringing my sugars down much at all. So now I have to check my blood sugar SEVEN times a day and do insulin injections four times a day. *Sigh*. NINE MORE WEEKS until my c/section. I'll be ready! Until then...I'll be a pin cushion.

Aww! So sorry!! Do you have a good tolerance for needles?
I have a huge needle fear so GD is my biggest fear

I'm not a fan of needles but the insulin isn't too bad. It's a very, very short needle that you can't even feel going in the skin. The finger pokes to check my blood are more painful than the insulin. They are tolerable but definitely I dread doing that more than the insulin.
