Isaiah's in the hospital (xp)

He went into the hospital on Saturday night because his dystonia got so bad that he was having trouble breathing. This is the 4th time this year that the poor kid has been in the hospital. He had a deep brain stimulator implanted to help with his dystonia, but then he had some complications and an infection and had to have one side removed. Now the remaining stimulator (on the other side) is apparently not working. Additionally, his bowels have not been moving, so his medicine, which is absorbed in the intestine, is not working either. The only way to control his symptoms right now is through IV sedatives. Tomorrow will be spent trying to figure out what is wrong with the stimulator and trying to get it fixed. I am really hoping it's a software problem so that they will not have to open him up to fix it.

I have been staying with him in the hospital since he was admitted. (We came through the ER and were transported to Children's by ambulance.) I was supposed to get a 24 hour reprieve last night, but Isaiah went into crisis yesterday and DH called and asked me to come manage things. (I have more experience with it and know what has been tried already and what works/doesn't work.) I'm okay with it, but this "sofa bed" is really causing me some aches and pains.

Thanks, ladies. There apparently isn't anything wrong with the device, which leaves us wondering what is really going on.

Oh no Deb I'm so sorry! Its so hard to watch our kiddos get sick and especially be in the hospital. Didn't he just get out of the hospital not too long ago? Poor little man and poor mama! Does his dystonia effect his whole body? I had to chuckle at the 24 hr reprieve I pictured you on a plush chaise getting fanned and fed grapes by men in loincloths lol only to be called back to reality and a sofa bed! I'm sure it was less exciting then that but I'm quite sure you deserved the royal treatment. I will keep little Isaiah in my prayers for a speedy recovery and return home!

How stressful! I'm so sorry you have to go through this now. I hope the doctors are able to find out what's going on quickly. I also hope you're able to get some respite. Take care.

Tiffany, this is our fourth stay in the hospital this year. I was hoping 2012 would be a better year than last year.
