Racing heartbeat

I get a racing heartbeat every once in awhile. When I was pg with DS1, I had it quite frequently (sometimes multiple times a day). I even went to see a cardiologist about it, and they put a monitor on me, but it was just a random rapid hb. They said that pregnancy can cause it. Well, I didn't have it with any other pregnancies, but it's coming back now with a vengeance. Yesterday, it was so bad that I had to lie down and put a cold washcloth on my face, and that barely seemed to help. Anyone else experience this (now or on the past)?

OMG! I never really had this before, but the last couple days its kind of been worrying me. I'll get random spurts of racing hb and also random times it will like THUD really hard in my chest for a couple beats and then go back to normal. Its kind of been freaking me out a little.

Yep I get it. I have had an EKG too just for a baseline really they weren't concerned, and it was normal. I have generalized anxiety disorder and occasional rapid heart beat is normal with that. It's also normal in pregnancy your blood volume increases to twice ?? what it was before getting pg and I think it just has to ddo with that. Later in pg I will even get random chest/ muscle pains which can be scary tho they just last for a moment and my MW says that's par for the course too.

I was on meds for anxiety a few years ago as well, I still have it but I don't feel I need anything right now, but I can see how that would make things worse. Whenever this heart thing happens it feels like I'm having a panic attack, but the thing is I'm usually just relaxed and not doing anything, so thats why its been so startling to me. Glad to know I'm not the only one though, and that it seems to be normal.

If you take a cold washcloth and cover your face with it, it triggers the "diver's reflex" and makes your breathing and hb slow down. I learned that from my doctor. It seems to help.

Deb you're chock full of great tips! I never heard that! BTW my back was killing me after I scrubbed our floors on Saturday and I did some of the yoga positions you suggested and they helped!

That's awesome. I'm glad it helped. I'm finding that my karate classes help a lot because they force me to stretch out once or twice a week, and I try to do some of those exercises when I'm warming up before class. I wish I was motivated to do them every day on my own. (Though I am doing the hip ones frequently because the sofa bed at the hospital is killing my hips.)
