So I was lurking all over and was just reading a post about someone's ultrasound and she was originally told girl and later on at another ultrasound baby was a boy.
So that got me thinking. With my DD, Justin did NOT want to get a 3D ultrasound done because he thought the babies looked like little aliens and so weird. So we had the 1 ultrasound done at 18 weeks, actually we had 2. I had my 18 wk on and because Hailey was such a stinker and curled up they couldn't get accurate measurements or see the goods so I went in the following week for another. At that ultrasound they got their measurements but couldn't see to tell boy/girl. The tech was super nice and I know her from work so she said she would do a vaginal ultrasound and tell the dr it was needed so we could see if it was a boy or girl. That's the only way we could tell.
This time Justin asked me if I wanted to do the 3 D he said he would be ok with it (I think because he saw my sisters ultrasound). I was shocked, he kind of sounded excited about having it done. So i'm thinking we will do the 18 wk ultrasound and then at 26 weeks or something we will do the 3D.
Did you all get them done with yours? Do you limit the # of ultrasounds you get done?
My sister went to a private clinic that does mainly all 3D ultrasounds and she went at like 14-15 weeks and they told her it was a girl and then she had her 18 week ultrasound done. I went with her to her first one and baby looked so tiny still. I don't know if I would want to do it at 14 weeks. I think I would want to do 18 and then 26 because of the post I was reading. What if baby turned out to be a boy and at 14 weeks they thought it was a girl?
We've never had 3D ones done at the hospital, we always go to a clinic later in the pg to get cute chubby faced 3D pics. I've always had an early u/s, either to date or because I had a recent m/c, usually around 7-8 weeks. I turn down the NT scan, so we don't get anything around 12-14 weeks. And then we get the big anatomy scan at 18-20 weeks where we find out the gender, but again the hospital only does the basic 2D ones.
Here are pics of DS1 and DS2's 3D shots. DS1 was around 25 weeks, DS2 was 27 weeks I think.

As you can see DS1 is a little more skeletal because we did it earlier, which is why we waited a little longer next time. We definitely plan on getting it done this time as well, probably around 27-28 weeks again.
I had one with both and will be doing so again. My first daughter, I was 25 weeks and I was 27 with my second DD (and my mom got to be there for that one, so it was really special). I'm just stoked that there is now a place locally and I don't have to drive 1.5 hour away, lol! I'll probably do it around the same time frame.
I have had a 2d/3d one with my last 3 babies. Used to be my on office wouldn't do any u/s unless you had a medical issue so that was the only way I can find out. Now with my last baby and this one I go to the big UofI to get an anatomy u/s between 18-20 wks. I still went to a 3d place with my last baby though at 17 wks bc the kids and my mom like to come along and the drs office can't accommodate us all. I will go to a 3d place again at 17 wks with this baby too. I will be in DesMoines on May 7 bc my dd is going up there for a contest and that is where the nearest 3d place is to me so I will do it then. May 29 I go for my anatomy u/s at the U and they will confirm the sex then. The 3d clinic has never been wrong for me. I don't get the best 3d pics that early but you get some cute ones. I've never gone later on got the full 3d package. It's 3 hrs away and we don't drive back up there for another.
My sister went to Prenatal Vision in Des Moines for her ultrasound, I went up with her (and my parents went) it was really neat. I am thinking thats where I would like to go for our 3D one but Des Moines is like 3 hrs from here if we take the interstate. So it would have to be a weekend trip on a Saturday. I suppose I could go to Omaha but I'd like my parents there and DM is only 1 1/2 from them so it would work well to go to DM. There isn't a clinic here in SC like that.
My dr's office only has the 2d one( I think)and my gender scan will be at 16 weeks. With it being a twin pregnancy I am not sure if and when I will have other ultrasounds. I figured at some point I would make an apt at this place a town over esp since this will be my last pregnancy. I wanna figure out the best time to get a 3d-4d though.
After all this talk about ultrasounds (Dh was talking to me about them) and thinking about them. I think i'm going to probably schedule one for 20 wks which is June 2nd. I really wanted to do it in May but I keep telling myself i don't want to go too soon hopefully I can hold out.
I know it seems so soon to think about it but my employer does our schedule almost 3 mnths in advance. So if I need the time off for May/June I have to do it now. I had to schedule my dr's appt for april and may 2 weeks ago. Gah thats 2 1/2 mnths from now !! Oh man i'm so impatient! I think with DH talking to me about the ultrasounds its helped me to be more excited about the baby and pregnancy. Or maybe i'm just having a low hormone day and i'm just not as emotional right now lol![]()
What makes me even more excited is I asked MIL and SIL to come with for this one. MIL has never been to an ultrasound with any of the grandkids (5 of them right now) so this is the first time she's been asked and she started crying. I love her so much and i'm happy to share it with her she such an amazing support for me and always there when I need her. She's so excited which makes me excited!
I went for DS around 30ish weeks, Ill upload a pic later, its soooo cute, and looks so much like him..and it was soo relaxing.
With his 20 week one at the doctors, it was..scary...worried something would be wrong, and they were so technical about measurements and stuff, and kinda..cold...
So this one, HUGE screen, verry friendly, and it was just for "fun" and they confirmed gender... such a wonderful experience to just lay there on a soft nice bed and just get to see my little guy for like 30 minutes!! And got a video and tons of pictures!!
i feel the next baby needs one too, wont be fair to have these 'cool' pictures and movies the first time then jip the second!! hehe
I like going around 30ish weeks- baby is bigger, has more fat, more clear features, yet is still small enough to move around (and get the money shot)
I'd totally reccomend it!!
